Not the Army. If you are going to enlist, the Air Force is definitely the way to go. They pay the most and are not on the front lines, ever.

I believe that you're not scared of the front lines, but it makes a big difference to your family. In the Army, I believe that you will come out of basic training as an E-3, with a bachelor degree. Why not go for the bigger pay and better benefits, though? I have alot of family in the Air Force and they are set for life! I wish that I would have done it, to tell you the truth.

Looking at the front line from the back line it;s easy to say it doesn't't scare you. Yeah, it doesn;t scare me either. Gore, heart ripping bloody savagery. Rip a man apart with a swiss army knife, shock him to death with dogs eating his flesh. Scare me? FUCK NO. You may never be on the front lines. But from the back line, you fuel the men on the front. You are the beast within, we are the beast because we sin. We kill others because it is where we began, we take the history of others and make it all over again. Just like in brave-heart a man eats a soul, just like the USA eats another and keeps it on the down low

If you have a bachelor's degree you will be commissioned as an officer. You will have to go through officer's training. I'm not sure what the pay scales are.
Officers do pretty well when it comes to pay. Newly enlisted guys don't earn as much.

That is precisely what I've got planned for my future. First, get a bachelor's degree... then go through OTS and become an officer in the air force.
As it is, mortality rates in the air force are fairly low... but for officers life is even safer yet. And the paycheck doesn't seem all that bad, either.
A bachelor's degree is a good idea... it gives you a chance to go in as an officer.

Fuck that.
I already know you have dreams, and the means. I;ve seen it in the poppies blowing in the breeze.
Get some land, make a plan, you need at least ten acres to make a stand.
If the military is how you get there, than a man with means already can only salute and wave goodbye to that land.
Think it out.

Have fun, I have family in the military, my grandpa on my moms side was in the navy, my uncle is in navy also. I choose to be who I am, I might help my friend with his buisness being a landscaper as well as my other weak paying job for now. I would rather have low pay then fight in a senceless war. War is senceless anyway.

But hey, go for the better pay if you do join, I still have to get my GED, to get into anything higher payed. I still plan on that, but I have had too many expences lately, so it made it literally impossible to go back to school.

A kid from my university was in infantry before the war started. He doesn't pay anything for college except some parking and books, everything else is covered and get this: His friend lives in a state nearby and the state not only pays for all his college but he also gets 1100 dollar check from the state every month.
For all those that say the army is a bad idea, they ain't shit. The American army is a piece of cake when compared to other armies. Why don't you try the Russian army, they won't give a fuck if you get ur legs blown off or if u want to go to college. The American army will take care of your ass.

Yes, because officers have no authority and don't make decisions
Note that he mentioned a bachelor's degree. That's usually considered qualification to be an officer.

Yea, the dude I was talking about that was in the Army went to amsterdam for the summer after he left the Army, mmkay. That sob.
Oh and by the way, if you think that there aren't any drugs in the US army camps in Iraq, well, ok..... It's just a question of wanting to be sober when getting shot at with ak's. Most soldiers do get drunk after duty and X, weed, acid is available but the question remains: Do want to take psychedelics in times of war and remember; you will get kicked out of the army for doing drugs, possibly with a dishonorable discharge.

I was just never that warm to the idea of being owned by my government, don't forget that the army has seriously fucked it's soldiers over in the past with incidents like testing the effects of radiation and starvation on it's own. and it you really think it has changed that much just remember they don't have to tell you shit, any of us in fact, there is plenty going on that we do not and probably will not know about for many years to come. But that's just my two cents!

Well, the army actually has done unethical things to it's soldiers in the past. That's not really paranoia, they actually did some shameful things.
The primary defense against getting fucked over is rank. The higher your rank, the more of an investment you are. A grunt represents minimal investment, they're fairly disposable. A lieutenant on the other hand is less likely to get screwed. If it costs the army more to replace you, they'll tend to do more to make sure they don't have to replace you.

yeah idk what connrad's saying, but it has nothing to do with cost, the army has plenty of money, believe me! For a brand new soldier to come in the army for training and equipment it costs nearly $100,000.00 regardless of rank. We have million dollar pieces of equipment sitting in our motor pool right now. One in specific is the CPBS or Chemical Protective Biological System, which is basically a million dollar vehicle used for treating casualties in an NBC(Nuclear Biological Chemical) environment. So yeah, the army will try to keep you in period, because really it's about politics, percentages, and numbers, the cost doesn't matter.

I jsu t came back from an army familirisation visit myself, i got a degree and in UK we can go and work as a friggin Officer in the forces with a degree.
I gotta tell you them army guys are the biggest bunch of fruitcakes/ war mongers ever. Some of what they do is sick.
The only regiment i would consider joining is friggin AIR CORPS.
But what you get you waste 1 year in friggin academy, then 2 more years learning to fly, then 3 more years serving. 6 years with no drugs, but you can make some money...
Choice is yours

Dude you will be scared. I worked with veterans of many conflicts and peacekeeping ops. Here's what we know: several months of very elevated adrenalin levels bring about permanent and irreversible changes to brain chemistry. You don't have to fight anyone. Walk down a street enough times hoping you'll get to the end with both balls and you will have plenty of PTSD symptoms. If not this year then eventually. I knew guys that went 35 yrs after Nam cool as cucumbers. Those who suffered were just gutless and weak. Then one night the wife finds them naked in the back yard hiding from charlie. The big slide starts.
It's your call. Why not fuck your life for the sake of oil or any other meaningless objective? I mean, you would not be the first young moron to be a pawn of powerful old men. All wars rely on it.
So see you in rehab or with a wife/child/parent totally afraid of your rages, sleepless for days, looking for ambushes in K-mart.
Oh i forgot, you're brave and they weren't.

I dont know why the hell so many people thrash the armed forces. Truth is, many make a carreer of it in their lifes, get a good rank and good pay if they show they have leadership skills and are not slacking off... Everybody else saying, 'military sucks' are just a bunch of pussies knowing in the back of their heads they wouldnt even survive a day of basic training.

Sure it's possible to have a decent life in the military. Fixing electronics in the airforce is little different from civilian life.
I'm simply saying that witnessing death, destruction, human degradation, dismemberment and being long term in situations where your own survival or physical integrity are at threat, costs you a great deal. If you can avoid this in military service- great. If not, then you will pay a price of some kind.
I've known men who walked a border for months. No-one died, nothing went bang. But it easily could have and the facts are that dumping adrenalin for that long, being sleepless that long, creates hypervigilant, angry individuals who don't adjust well back in real life. They're not flash back victims- just different in a bad way.
The trouble is that the average 18 year does not have the maturity or life experience to know the price they may be asked to pay.
But yeah i'd change tyres on a bomber as long as i don't have to hose out the body parts of one of the crew. Life is- after all- meant to be enjoyed.

I am very biased against the war (ongoing wars) so i thought i would say that first so you can take that with my views on the military. Killing is wrong, however it can be justafied in certain situations. If there is a situation in which killing is wrong it is immoral (if you beleive that atleast). You are at the very least helping a company, a network kill for unjustafied causes (not involving protecting the country or populous). If Iraqi's were pouring over the border from canada i would say yea join to help the country however if you join while wide spread murder is taking place you are helping kill. That been said you also have to look at what is best for you. If you think you can join and not have that weigh at all on your concious(SP) and you also think this is the best route for you then i think you have your answer. Thought i feel strongly about the war i acknowledge not everything is black and white and even though i feel this way it doesnt make it true.
