Invitro is a waste of time and effort.

my interpretation of in vitro was mushroom torture... i always like to make sure my mushies have plenty of room and what they need to grow

It's hardly a waste of time, and it's also hard to screw up invitro. Simply let a jar fully colonize, then open the lid once per day to let some fresh air in. If it's a pf jar, dump out the verm barrier and remove any tape from the holes. If you're using grains like rye, be sure to hydrate in weak coffee if you want decent invitro performance. Gypsum also helps. I've got hundreds of pictures of jars just like the ones below. You can also add casing to the grains and fruit right in the jar, using it as a mini-terrarium like in the last picture. You remove several vectors of contamination with invitro. Those in dirty environments might find it the easiest way to go.

The top left one is awesome. I did one PF cake invitro and the shrooms came out all fucked up and hard as rocks. If you're going to go as far as a colonized jar, why not go all the way.
