My Grandfather was a Mason
    #5627846 - 05/14/06 09:59 AM (17 years, 11 months ago)

As my parents were packing up recently to move, I found a bunch of my Grandfather's old things. Mostly photo albums and nick-nacks, like an unopened deck of cards from a convention with Spiro Agnew, VP to Nixon.

But, more interestingly, I saw his grave marker/dedication plaque that had a square & compass between his dates.

And I also found this mysterious medal in a small box... After a bunch of searching online using the shape and what I could make out of the text on it, I've figured out this is a Masonic medal given by the local chapter, probably for induction. I don't know much else... but, take a look!
Interesting, no?
Any further help is greatly appreciated! Freemasonry is very much a mysterious thing in general. And I had no idea my grandfather was a Mason...

Why is that?
It's certainly not illegal to discuss it.

Mine was too.  Interesting story....

He had been dead for a couple of years and my cousin and her husband moved into his house that he had built.

One night, very late, there was a knock on the door.  When the husband opened the door there was an old man standing there.  Apparently his car had died or wrecked or somethin and he went off walking to look for help.  He walked by their house, that my gpa built, and said a Mason had lived there.  Something in the architecture or design of the building was something only Masons knew.  So they chatted for a lil while and my cousin's husband gave him a lift.

The man never told what it was that gave it away but that story intrigued me.  Ive spent countless hours online looking for what it might have been to no avail.

What side?
Well my Grandfather was not an evil man, and I can't expect every Mason to be.
Most disinfo you have read about Freemasons is blown heavily out of proportion, only typically to be focused on the 32nd degree Masons and the elite ruling class.
He was not in that Echelon.

whatever goob.

very interesting story Lloyd... it's fitting; masons are obviously known for their incorporation of symbology into their work.

Maybe the lodge could tell me a little more about the medal. Probably wouldn't say much about him though.

Freemasonry is not a religious society...

more like a lifetime fraternity.

maybe I'm mistaken, but are Mason Temples not religous structures and of the same association of freemasonry?

Scientology is of the same vintage, it started as a scam and a fun way for elites to posh around and waste money- and then it really started picking up and is now worth billions and has potentially dangerous influence.
