Greetings shroomarians, shroomanites is it?
Obviously this is my first post, and before I begin I¡¦d like to thank everybody for having me as a member of your forums. Without going into excessive and unnecessary personal details I¡¦ll introduce myself. I¡¦m 3o years old this month, Australian, and have spent my life combating chronic pain. In my youth I was an elite athlete, but due to the combination of a back condition and back injuries through my chosen sport have been forced to quit my chosen field.
I¡¦m one of (I suspect many) whom have had little to no luck in finding relief of my pain through accessing the services of the medical establishment. I¡¦m told my condition (and age) do not warrant surgery (yet), but is far too serious for the majority of restricted pain relief medications.
I have had experience with growing cannabis, (also in an effort to self medicate) and found the relief of great benefit (for a certain amount of time).
When I came across your site (and one or two others of a similar nature) I was filled with a new sense of hope. I have smoked Cannabis and cigarettes on and off for over 10 years, and the thought of bringing the age old, natural mother of pain relief back into the modern day and into my own pain management regime was a thrilling idea to say the least.
It¡¦s not my intention to provoke some form back lash for asking several novice questions, but I sincerely have been unable to find answers to a few basic questions. I have in fact read a lot of the fantastic information on this forum and others, and in a sense that has contributed to my further confusion. It¡¦s almost certain these questions have in fact been answered in past threads, and for that I do apologize, but I sincerely have been unable to locate the information I seek. My questions are these: 1. I have read in many sources that south East Asian seeds are the most common and desirable seeds, yet another source indicated that Dutch seeds are the most alkaloid rich and favored among knowledgeable growers.
Which seed is in fact most commonly acknowledged as ¡¥the best¡¦?
2. I have also read that seeds procured from supermarket shelves are fine for growing alkaloid rich (suited to medicinal use rather then ornamental) poppies. It¡¦s not my intention to second guess, but I would have bet cash that these seeds are sterilized in a similar fashion to hemp seeds that are used in commercial bird feed.
Can you in fact grow seeds bought off the supermarket shelf? And if so, is this information credible to the point of being undoubted in the growing culture?
2b Assuming that supermarket seeds are in fact fine for growing, is there a particular brand/type that is best? (I have read that the Dutch seeds are most common in cooking and baking). In my area there are many foreign grocers, and some specific to herbs and seeds. Might an Asian herb and seed grocer be a better source of seeds?
3. I read a fantastic tutorial from another member of this forum that lives in Australia and grows Tasmanian seeds. I¡¦m sure most if not all of you are aware that poppies are commercially grown (obviously under government supervision) for professional medicinal use. Would seeds such as these be the benchmark of quality seeds? And if so would I be best served in exercising patience and making an effort to purchase seeds of this origin?
3. B Along similar lines, would it be considered wise to purchase from an online seed bank (as is common in the cannabis culture). If so, which dot com would I be best served in doing business with?
I also have questions about hydroponic growing methods (as every method I have as yet located involves either primarily, or exclusively outdoor growing methods) But I¡¦m thinking I¡¦ve asked enough for one post ƒº That said, if anyone enjoys sharing their expertise as I myself do/did regarding cannabis growing methods, please feel free to share any information you care to divulge. Such as, growing mediums. I personally prefer shredded Rockwool under Metal halide lighting. Would the same methods used in Cannabis cultivation be effective in poppy growing?
I¡¦ll quit now, before I well and truly push the volume of my questions into the ridiculous (if I haven¡¦t already! :P). Thank you all again for your hospitality (in advance.) I have noticed a sense of common communal helpfulness, and I must say it¡¦s very refreshing compared to many forums regarding other subject matter where a belittling and trollish demeanor is at the forefront of their common behavior. I¡¦m looking forward to learning and sharing with you all in the near future,
Thank you again

I noticed the very next thread I read answered several Questions I just asked (oops, sorry) The seed ring sounds like a fantastic idea, and it also answered the question regarding Tasmanian seeds. The only thing Im wondering now is....just how hard are they going to be to get my sticky hands on! I guess being in Australia allready makes the job easier. I guess I'll keep digging, and cross my fingers. Thanks guys

I never saw this thread until now, amigo. I don't see why it would be hard to get your hands on seeds, they are legal. Umh, I can't really answer your questions, but welcome to the shroomery.

Welcome
I'm fairly young with chronic pain myself; sorry if this sounds harsh but: Don't put your faith in pods for any sort of long-term help. They did act as small reliever, but more than anything they provided me with a calm, relaxed focus. Be careful, its not a pretty monster to feed.
