I don't know if I agree with that. I got some parakeet feed that is all millet and it seems like my dog cooked it into a mush when I wasn't looking...

Yeah, you should tell your dog to watch the millet kernels, and as soon they begin to explode strain them. Or your dog should use a fixed ratio of birdseed and water per jar, like 100g birdseed, 80 g water per pint jar.

if its the highest ratio of millet then why dont everyone buy parakeet feed? noone ever metions to use it. with the other kinds of bird feed there is too much other seed besides millet. so parakeet would be fine then right Anno?

here is a few birdseed teks 4 u. From a post from BlueHoney : This is a very easy and simple recipie for bird seed ( millet, ie finch seed) Take a large sauce pan and fill with 2 cups of washed finch seed. ( washing with water helps remove the bird coat additive) Next place the seed in the sauce pan and put three cups of water or enough to submerge the seed. Now bring the seed to a simmer and stir for 10 minutes, never let it boil. You will need to add water as the seed will double in size drawing up water. Then when the seed have doubled, reduce heat to low and put a lid on until the rest of the water is absorbed. Now in a large mixing bowl, mix the 2 cups of seed with 1 cup of vermiculite. You may need to add a little more depending on the volume of seed. You want the consistantcy to be that of being able to squeeze it together and yet it still will shake apart and be airy. Now place in pint jars filling them up by hand not with a spoon( will compact the seed) to a little over half way. Then pressure cook as normal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another post by BlueHoney : Hello.:), this recipie is from a very good and missed person from the old days, ; by Funkyballoon, (Aug.23,1999) ************************************************************** 1. Boil/simmer a certain volume of birdseed with the same volume of water to soak in. 2. Mix boiled birdseed with brown rice flour. 70% birdseed and 30%BRF. No vermiculite. When they're mixed nice and good, add water until everything is nice and moist, but not dripping wet. 3. Put into half-pint jars and tape the holes. Pressure cook for 45 minutes at 15psi 4. Let jars cool to room temp and then inoculate. ************************************************************* It's simple, and works great! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thanks BlueHoney for the Teks!!! I hope these help. I'm sure Anno has a kick ass recipie too. I'd like to hear his....too

Azure, you can use any seeds that works for you. I also used parakeet seed earlyer with similar results. I personaly found that seeds with the higher fat content don?t work so good as millet does. Therefore a millet based birdseed. Take a look at the composition of the finch seed at this site: http://www.inflightbirdseed.com/ingredients.html FINCH MIX German Millet White Millet Red Millet Canary Seed Flax Canola Seed
