Psychoactivity in Pilosocereus azureus? * 1
    #5625718 - 05/13/06 07:12 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I was out shopping for some cacti, and I found one called a Pilosocereus azureus (commonly called a Blue Torch cactus, but this could refer to any number of cacti).

Sadly, I can't post a picture of it (no digital camera), but it looks a little like a Peruvian torch (number of ridges, shape, and coloration), but with dense clusters of very thin, long golden needles (each about .75 inches long, and each cluster has about 10 of them).

Does anyone know anything about the alkaloid content of the plant?

Well, it's still a pretty cool looking cactus, and it's much less prone to becoming misshapen than a San Pedro. Also, there was an old thread on this one a few years back: Here.
So no, it doesn't have any alkaloids, but will make a nice cosmetic addition to my living room.
