legacy hardware

Where do you stand on legacy hardware?

Personally, I love it. I can never, ever bring myself to throw out functioning computer hardware. I love taking something so old that most people would call it useless and turning into something cool; hooking it up to a bunch of old HDDs and building a raid 5 NAS, building an IRC server, a bittorrent box, a music/video server... anything!

Are you the same? Can hardware be "too old" to be useful, even if it still works? Have you ever done anything cool with legacy hardware? Have you ever thrown out a functioning system because it was too slow?
Can functioning hardware be too old or too slow to be useful?
You may choose only one

Eep! If you sell/give away old hardware, please say so.

Sorry, I didn't think this through

In terms of obsolete PC hardware I generally try to give it to computer illiterate friends/relatives.

i have an old crappy box
2.5 gig harddrive
it can't hardly even run X with fluxbox
but it can still stream music
it makes a hell of a radio

its good for porn too
it can run a picture viewer
real slow, but it manages
it can't handle video clips though

its a good little box

My firewall, http proxy, DNS cache server, bitlbee server:

Pentium 200MMX
96MB EDO
6GB HD
2 NICs
OpenBSD 3.8
Drains about 20Watts

Code:

$ uptime
8:24PM up 63 days, 10:35, 1 user, load averages: 0.12, 0.19, 0.10

Why would I throw it?

i made a firewall out of an old box i had lying around. it's actually a bit overpowered for what it does. it would function fine as a system for basic office tasks and web browsing. i think it has an 800 MHz pentium 3, 256 MB of RAM and a 20 gig 5200 RPM hard drive.
