So the bottom line of all this is....if anybody is so concerned about whether or not holding in smoke is damaging to your lungs get a vaporizer and get as high as you want with no adverse effects. Not to your lungs at least....

yes it is bad for your eyes, blood shot eyes just think about it...cann't be a good thing.

i don't think it is neccaryly mj that causes bloodshot eyes thow...but could be for example maybe thc causes it.

anyways its the smoke that does it...when you smoke try holding your head in a way that no smoke can rise and come in contain with your eyes as easy....i bet this will help some.

I know someone said the same thing, i just don't recall you justifying what you said (I am rather pissed)

I have no doubt - being informed by several GP's - that holding smoke in damages you're lungs (and doesn't increase your high) but it has nothing to do with this topic... It is so completely obvious that any sort of smoke in your lungs does damage that its not worth mentioning. As far as getting smoke in your eyes though, yeah, its gonna hurt, but that ain't wahts making your eyes bloodshot.

"and i guess people who have smoked threw bongs there entire life wouldn't(<----------------) have any clue about getting smoke in there eyes..this is true. but when someone cheifs on a joint(<---------) the smoke tends to run up your face sometimes if you head is tilted down even a little. those who have expereienced this would notice a burning sensation and eye irration....im almost 900000000000000000000000000000000% postive this (--------->)can cause REDEYES(<-------). but im (---->)NOT saying its the only cause or the main cause(<-------).
"""

Now I may be interpreting this wrongly and I take back what I'm saying if I did... But sounds like you need to decide on your answers before you post them... As for the smoke making your eyes bloodshot... Maybe if you held a toilet paper roll over your eye and stuck it over the smoke your eye will go bloodshot... But cigarette smoke doesn't make your eyes go red, and neither does Kratek smoke, and if you've ever gotten that in the eye you'd know that it's much more painful/irritating than weed smoke. In grade 9 I was payed $10 to squeeze onion into my eye (it was stupid... but on the other hand it was $10), there was some redening but nothing near what weed causes, and there's no competition between the irritation of smoke from a joint compaired to straight onion juice

as for the inhaling part, I've read it takes less then 3 seconds for whatever THC you were going to absorb be absorbed from a normal hit. THC is absorbed when the smoke is moving, so the most efficient way to get higher from a hit is to slowly exhale and inhale the smoke, I believe this is the method recommended for medical users of marijuana.

I've just been skimming over things because I don't want to get too involved, but red eyes are purely caused by vasodialation. 100% sure of this. No room for error, whatsoever.

The same thing happens when you squeeze your palms together for a few minutes. Look at your forearm, it should start getting veiny. Crackheads do this.

When you do bicep curls, you will notice that not only do the veins in your arms become more prominent, surrounding areas like your forearm will become red. This is because all the veins and capilaries are filling with blood - This is vasodialation.

You can smoke with a bong, a vaporizer or a joint and you will likely have red eyes or some sort of change in ocular pressure.

Lots of people who've smoked for a very long time do not have such red eyes when smoking. They may have very red eyes more often when they haven't smoked, but this is due to the long term exposure. They'll smoke and their eyes are relatively the same.

Weed also has some antiphlogistic properties that people use for inflammation and sore muscles. I noticed this back in highschool when I'd smoke up and hurry to the washroom to brush my teeth and cover up the stench. I'd spend so much time leaning over the sink, brushing my teeth, inspecting my face (I'd be gone by this point and wasting lots of time), that I could resume a normal upright position and my entire back would crack. I then began exploring marijuana ingestion through cookies and cakes and noticed that my eyes were still red, muscles would still become relaxed, appetite would be stimulated and other changes were very much noticable.

Another thing that happens is I typically get a single sore eye when I feel the onset of sickness. When this happens, I'll smoke a few puffs or eat a cookie only to discover that along with my returned appetite, the eye pains have diminished!!

Small discoveries like this lead me to read my mom's medical books and search high and low for anything to do with marijuana from thc delta 9, arachidonic acids, anandamide, other fatty acids and things to do with weed. Pubmed and wikipedia are awesome for things like this. But when it comes down to it, ime and from all the research I've attempted to do, this has lead me to believe that the smoke DOES NOT cause red eyes. Marijuana causes red eyes. Vasodialation is the culprit, and in no one way can smoke be solely responsible.

I also don't care to get smoke in my eyes and avoid it at all costs. I do know how much it can sting, but I don't think it stings too much more than having tobacco smoke in my eyes. I think one could argue that the setting could contribute to this. You're probably stoned and have drier, more sensitive eyes at this point. All in all, getting smoke in the eyes does suck and I don't think it's worth debating too much. It's a pretty rare occaision that a big whisp of smoke rolls up your face, and when it does it certainly stings. :smirk:

ok well i have one last arguement and ill drop the smoke in the eye thing.

so you guys are saying the mj in your blood stream is causing redeyes...ok i totally agree with you guys now..but i havn't dismissed the possiblility that smoke in the eyes has some potential for it as well.

isn't there thc and well everything else mj has..in the smoke...cann't your eye's absorb the smoke.

lets say for a second..just for example sake that its thc in blood that causes it...well thc is in smoke...when it comes in contact with your eyes it may get absorbed by the already dilated viens..then with this thc sitting on your eye balls...you go to rub your eyes because they now itch..doing so you bring in more thc from your fingers...and you also are smearing this thc around on your eye balls when you rub them....lol i guess i think to much....

p.s. for the person who said i need to make up my mind...well this is a discussion and with a discussion a persons views change...aka the whole point of discussion to get others views...aka to learn some and to help others...kinda like sharing. then there are some who take offence and others who just like to argue....so im sorry if your offended because i learned something and my views changed and i wasn't afraid to post it.

well it may work but I'm not going to do any testing to find out hehe but i would think you would have to absorb a lot through your eye.
because its the MJ going to your brain which causes it to dilate the veins and arteries. its not a localized event and i would think the amount you take in around your eye would be nowhere near sufficient to make the brain dilate your veins and arteries.

This thread is retarded.

I hold smoke to save money. I don't grow my own bud. The risk to your lungs is...meh...over-dramatized. Ciggs are far worse, and honestly, most people who smoke die from something else before lung cancer.

Not to mention if you QUIT smoking (like when you settle down, get a job, have kids, whatever), your lungs heal in several years. Not back to 100%, but whatever, fuck it.

Yeah, i agree with LazyCash for the most part. And that other dude's opinion on how the smoke that comes in contact with your eyes makes them red; that's just silly. Your capalaries are just getting larger, just like when your arm gets "veiny" when you do curls. And it is NOT bad for your eyes because it alleviates pressure in the eye. It can even treat Glaucoma to an extent. And does anyone know, just out of curiousity; how long it takes for all the THC to get into your blood. Like how long do you hold in the smoke for for all the THC in the smoke to enter your lungs? I remember someone saying something like 5 seconds but i was just wondering if anyone knew for sure. Thanks
