in order to optimise growth space in my fruiting chamber i need to find a strain that only grows 6". i have plenty of room in the middle for over a foot and a half, but i have some room on the sides that i would like to get some use out of. any suggestion's??
P.S. my amazonian spores came in yesterday.

The shrooms will grow into whatever space they have. Mexi Cubs are said to be short, but I've grown some bigguns. KSSS are usually fat and stubby.

I personally suggest KSSS
They're usually a bit shorter and fatter than others.

just don't fan as much and you will get shorter mushries! also they will just bend when they hit the lid which is perfectly fine unless you are trying to produce the classic LOOKING shroom haha.

Use any strain but do 1/4 pint jars. These cakes will fruit fine but all the mushrooms will be smaller. This way you can still do any strain you want and not worry about it.However as said they will just bend over when reaching the top and that is just fine.

This has been my experience as well. When I moved up to coolmists, my mushies were 1/2 the length of the one's I grew with just perlite and fanning, but weighed twice as much since they were not hollow, much thicker and bulkier. That is also why outdoor grows generally produce shorter, more compact mushies.
For shorter carpophores, decrease substrate depth and increase surface area. This will help to produce smaller mushrooms, and many more of them.
