Lid tightness question, probably been asked before but i can't find it.

Heres the plan. Quart jars of WBS with two holes in the lid covered with MP tape. I need to know how tight to make the lids before PC. Also, do I need TF over the lids with I PC still? If someone could tell me exactly how tight to make the lids and why, that would be great. Do I need to cover the jar with coffee filters or anything after the PC?
MP lid users out there please detail how I should prepare the lid for before and after PC and inoc. Please include the lid tightness and any other details like if i need to use tin foil or coffee filters or any other little things.
So far my plan was to use on hole to inco and then put another piece of mp over the injection spot. But I don't know how to prepare the jars for PC. help...
help a girl out.

very tight
no, use 2 coffee filters instead of foil and leave the filters on.
you don't need loose lids... there's holes in the lid. The holes allow for venting.
do this:
jar tyvek lid with two 1/4 holes in it band tightening it all down good 2 coffee filters on top of it all held in place with rubber band. pressure cook like this. If you're worried put aluminum foil over the whole deal, but I don't
to inoculate have micropore tape pieces soaking in alcohol. follow agar's open air inoculation tek http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...rue#Post5296250 place the tape over the inoculation site when done. adhesive will take effect when alcohol dries.
label and incubate.

Use foil. The purpose of the foil is to prevent water that drips down from the lid of the pc from being able to pool up and enter your jars through the filter. Remove the foil after jars come out of the pc.
I use the metal lids upside down so the metal contacts the jar instead of the rubber. This makes the lid much easier to remove later, as it won't be stuck in place by the rubber. Tighten the ring tight.
Coffee filters are of no mycological use that I know of. Contaminants will smoke through them like a minnow through a bass net. RR

yup, coffee filters are dust covers, per se.
The tyvek is the filter for contams.
Go with RR on this I guess... put foil over the whole deal to protect it from water in the pc.

Thanks but no thanks, I want to use MP, NOT tyvek. If any MP users want to give me details that would be great.

mp should work the same as tyvek.
same principle I suppose.
just put the mp over the vent holes of the lid.
I would still recommend the two coffee filters for dust covers, but I guess they are really not needed at all, just good to write on.
Simple way:
lid with holes screwed down tight. (upside down will make it easier to remove later as RR stated) mp over the holes. foil over the top of it all and into the pressure cooker.

shroomballa, from what I've read micropre tape offers more gas exchange than tyvek.

interesting. Are you talking about a couple micropore tape covered holes vs a full tyvek lid? or are we talking about the same area of either mp tape or tyvek?

Hm. Now that I think about it ...ignore what I said. I can't think of any reason to suppose I'm right. =)

ok, first drill a 1/4 inch hole in the lid, before pc place a piece of Micro Pore over the hole. tighten lid all the way. you do need to use tin foil to keep water from dripping into jar. coffee filters are not necessary, some use them some dont. when inoculating Pierce through the micro pore tape and inject, when finished place another piece of micro pore to cover the hole made by syringe.

I answered your post above already. What part of tightening the lids and using foil are you not understanding? RR

oh come on RR we all get paid for answering questions so why shouldn't she take the wealth of information and kindness of the members that the shroomery has to offer for granted?
