Question about casing growth.
    #5624198 - 05/13/06 10:57 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Hello. My friend recently birthed his his grow on a mix of verm and bed-a-beast. The casings have been sitting in his incubator for about 4 or days. On a few of his casings, the mycelium has grown up through the soil and is looking strong and nice. However, the majority of his casing show little to no growth on the surface. Why are some looking so good and others looking not so good? Is this common? Are the ones with little growth just slower? How long should he expect for the mycelium to grow through the soil?

BTW - My friend used WBS. And the strain is creeper if that helps at all.

Does he have an incubator?

What most people do is put the caseing layer of usually 60/40 coir / verm about 1/4" on top.

Place tinfoil tops w/ holes poked in the foil. Incubate @ 82 deg for about 5 days

after 5 days patch the spots that are growing faster and put back in the incubator. Do this till you have even growth, then put it into the FC

By doing this you will alow the pinset to be more even due to growth being more even through out the caseing

with a coir verm casing layer, it takes a much shorter time to colonize, and you should put it in your FC sooner then 5 days, or your whole casing layer will colonize. and use 40 coir/60 verm.
My coir verm casing layer colonized almost too much in just two days.
