colonization
    #5622629 - 05/12/06 08:23 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I have ten jars that have ben colonizing for about a week. most of them have milky yellowish look to them, kinda like a light cream sauce. one has a nice bright white spec about the size of a wbs grain. is this normal, or should they be farther along?

well the first two days the temps got into the 90s breifly. then I brought it down. it stayed about 82 for 3 days, but now my heat source died on me. so today they got down to the mid 70s, around 76. so I got a new heat source and theyre in the mid 80s, about 82.

the white spec apeared after I got the temps to normal and has ben getting whiter. and the yellowish sauce has ben growing also after I got the temps normal. the jars with no growth has the sauce just vary vary little. you can barly notice it.

I'm thinking bacterial infection.

White stuff is mycelium starting to grow but maybe not having a chance at life.

Does it smell bad??

you know I noticed a slight odor. its not realy notice able until you put your face right by the jars. I just figured that was because the jars were too wet or somthing.

the wet is most likely the cause of the smell.

Follow FooManShrooms link provided and I think that's it.

Yeah, I'm saying that I think it is bad and you have a chance of having bacillus.
The high temps could have opened your substrate up to the infection and spoiled the jars.

crap, well I am pretty sure its what was in the link. so I tossed all but two jars wich showed sighns of mycilium and no BI. I have the temps at a steady 81. Im getting some hpoo here real soon, so I guess ill just start over with the other jars. another question, with lcs. I started one with vanilla instead of honey, I used about two tablespoons for a little more than a half pint jar. but I havent had any growth for about 3 weeks. so I assume its a dud. is there any good vanilla lc teks out there?
