Low Dose Preference
    #5619963 - 05/12/06 01:40 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Hey all...I have made a discovery, whether good or bad is yet to be seen. For the last year or so afof has smoked between once a week and once a month and just gotten blizted each time. About a week and a half ago, the same friend decided to just smoke a small bowl a few hours before bed just to see what that road offered. And he was blown away.

My friend feels like an accidental pothead. Music is wayyyy better at a mediocre high -> play guitar way more, listen to even more music, etc. He can think clearly but still has the "wraping your head around strange concepts" quality of pot. Because of this he has been able to figure out things in his life, and better other parts. He almost feels like he's found his true self.

I really don't know how else to describe, for my friend, this strange phenomenon, though I have a feeling a few of you folks will know exactly what I'm talking about.

The funny thing is that througout his weekly/monthly usage he smoked a few days in a row and always thought "I could never become a pothead."

As a side note, afoaf is planning his first shroom experience sometime in the next month and feels if pot brings him to his true self, he will definitely feel like he's found God while shrooming.

see ya downstream

edit: I was curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this. I just think it's kind of strange that this friend has such a strong bias towards being relatively stoned versus out of your mind stoned.

Im not too sure what you mean,

but many of my freinds, including myself have learned to relax and "wind down" a little bit with pot. Instead of using antidepressants or anti-anxiety pills, pot has become a natural alternative. A mini vacation, to get back to "zero" and clear your head. Allowing you to see the simplicity of things.

This isnt always the case, Life will always have its curve balls, bu all in all, ive seen it help many people, for many different reasons.

Just like shrooms and other drugs, we sometimes need to view the world from a new "set of eyes"(as i like to call it), to discover and grow on the "inside".

Sometimes you just gotta get outta your head. It gets crowded in there, and there's all kinds of space outside it.

Personally, I get this effect no matter how much weed I smoke (as long as it's at least enough to get me high at all, which can be an issue if i've been rocketing my tolerance sky-high for weeks). Thinking back, though, my daily (and subsequent all-day-every-day) smoking started with a pattern of smoking just a very small amount at a time, like you mentioned.

And to make sure that everyone is fully aware, cannabis is addictive. I know, I used to think that was bullshit too, but as a cannabis addict, it's not a fact I can really deny at this point. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing (if I believed it were, I'd care about how nearly-impossible it is for me to not smoke). I'm not going to claim that it's anywhere near as addictive as typical opiates or amphetamines. But constant use brings with it the price of psychological withdrawal, and constant heavy use brings with it physical withdrawals (at least for some folks... we call it the wake-and-puke).

Many of my friends have also realized how strongly addicted they are to weed, but the thing is, not a single one doesn't think that it's worth it. I can't speak to their reasons, but for myself, weed just makes everything clearer. Weed is my only consistent source of motivation This isn't an effect that developed after I started smoking weed; I've always been amotivated. But I've since discovered that if there's something I don't feel like doing but need to get done, smoking a bowl gets it done. Even if I'm just sitting on my ass, smoking a bowl will always get me to start doing something (the only times that I ever study except for the day before an exam is when I'm stoned). Music is better, books are better, life is better, work is better, movies are better, food is better, school is better (until you come down and get tired in the middle of a lecture). You get the picture.

I guess my point is, if you see yourself potentially going down the path of chronic use, be aware of the costs as well as the benefits (though as I've said, I find the benefits more than worth the costs). Besides the capacity to be addictive, other costs are the actual price of the weed (damn how I wish it were legal so I could grow my own stash), and in most states if you get caught with any weed, you can't get federal financial aid (though rapists and murderers still can). I'm lucky enough to live in a state where you have to get caught with over an ounce to get disqualified from federal financial aid.

yes, although weed is psychologically addictive.
I know MANY people, who simply said, eh - time to take a break..and they did. Some came back after a few months, while others said - "im done, it was great..but im done".

I think it depends on the person. Someone who is easily influenced by routine, can easily become addicted to the act of smoking daily, but after a week or 2 of being strong and holding out, you actually feel proud of yourself (for whatever odd reason lol jk). Leading to the decision that eveyrday use isnt worth it.
*Besides, most people that tone down from every day use, to recreational, admit they appreciate the plant and its effects more*

All in all, if your concerned about addiction, your definitly the type to become addicted, not only through the use, but through the thought process of it all.

Ive known people who have smoked for years, and then simply gave it up by saying, eh im done(and never looked back).

BUTTT, if you allow your mind to think about it as an issue. You will be addicted, because you make it an issue.

Sometimes less thought accomplishes more.

just do what you selfconcious tells you, and just go with the flow. Live life, and dont think too hard about the things that arent neccessary. In the end, you won't stear yourself wrong, your self-concious has nothing but the best intentions. Your concious can sometimes be the fuckup (he thinks too much and he likes to confuze).

Be happy, be confident..and be true.
