ID Request for Bluing NZ Shroom (Pics!)

Hey fellow shroomers! After many, many unsuccessful hunts, I may have finally discovered my first psilocybe species. Here goes:
Habitat: - Central Auckland, New Zealand - new apartment block gardens, native grasses and ferns planted - growing on bark/mulch
Gills: - chocolate brown/grey - unsure of attachment – cap was upturned
Stem: - approximately 8cm long - approximately 0.75 cm diameter - white in color - bruising blue/grey when picked or touched - hollow stem
Cap: - approximately 5cm in diameter - colored grey/tan – fading to lighter color on edges - upturned cap - translucent edging
Spore-print: - purple/chocolate brown - originally looked black on tinfoil, but once wiped onto white paper, print was distinctively purple in color
(note the bluing on stem - sorry about quality of image)
Hope I'm on to something positive here! Thanks!

Yussss... Thanks for verifying the ID shroominDole! Prior to picking these, they looked like p. semilanceata, but with an upturned rather than conical cap (http://www.shroomery.org/images/25952/27682.jpg).

Are they not aucklandii? I dont really know much about what aucks look like but the subs I have found dont do that upturning thing.
Regardless good find.

Cheers mate! Its to my understanding that psilocybe subaeruginosa is a fairly low potency mushroom, no? How many fresh/dry grams would be needed for a solid first time trip?

I don't really know man. I was is New Zealand in 1998, but I wasn't into mushrooms at the time. They look pretty potent to me.
I'm sure you could find dosage info if you search around the site here.

Sifika,
No actually the opposite. They are some of the more potent hallucinogenic mushrooms you could find. Nice find! Nice subs.

Same thing. They have all (eucalypta/australiana/aucklandii, etc.) been reclassified as simply Psilocybe subaearuginosa as recent research has verified there were little points of difference between them in the first place and the "differences" that were documented were not consistent and overlapped between the supposedly different species anyway. They are all the same thing. This was confirmed by isozyme analysis in 2003.
I guess you could call them different "strains".

Crazy how different they look in different places. Sifika they are real strong man. I took 3 good sized ones (although they were smaller than your finds - mine were about 5cm tall x 2cm wide!) and got to stage 2-3 trip. Lasted about 4 hours start to finish.
I think Blue Meanie is getting potency results soon - from my understanding they are amoung the most potent in the world - maybe not at Ps. azurescens level, but close.
3 grams dry "broke" Bluemeanie, and he's got a lot of experience.

I only have had the three I spoke of before, there was quite a big anxious comeup. As for the taste they are real easy to eat - crunchy and dont really taste strong at all.

Yah I think Johnston & Buchannan caused alot of confusion incorrectly stating that Auklandii becomes flattened with edges becoming upturned and that Subaeruginascens doesnt only becoming broadly umbonate.....seen that question asked here alot and Im sure theve gotten plenty of feedback on that one and others like their descriptions of gill attatchment for seperating species......especially when considered so close to Cyannescens group.....whats the first thing you think of when you see Cyannescens......that upturned undulating margin.....that groups hallmark......
I think Ps. Aucklandii is still considered distinct from SUBs.....in section Zapotecorum and would still be well up for debate on many different levels
here are somes pics I highjacked of _OTTOs_ exploits with SUBs from another thread........

Agreed

bluemeanie said: Ive seen subs that look similar to those and it can vary its appearance considerably. Also the upturned cap at full maturity is indicative of subs.
It sure is -

Hey shroomers, Just downed approximately 7grams (wet weight mind you! ) along with several slices of orange, really helped to mask the taste and texture of the mushrooms. Im hoping this is a large enough dosage to experience the magic these mythical fungi hold...

Subaeruginosa often become uplifted at maturity and the mushroom that you found growing on wood chips is almost certainly subaeruginosa.

Just found a whole heap of subs - lots of old ones too and they get a little wavy, but no upturning on the ones down here.

7 grams wet would be about the equivalent of .7 grams dry except that your specimens would be higher in psilocin content but I wouldn't expect much more than the auditory stimuli, body high and a few giggles to go round mate.
