Coplandia cyanescens and Psilocybe cubensis on straw, coir casing

I cased all 3 tubs on Feb 16. I used walmart straw and pasturized 2 loads of it in pillow cases, keeping the temp around 175-200 F for about an hour and 15 minutes. All 3 casings use straw and all spores were from ralphster.
top: Cambodian spawned /w 1X1/2 pint drf cake [ this is a small casing because its for a friend to try in a little terrarium ]
middle: Pan Cyan spawned /w 3X1/2 pt birdseed
bottom: Cambodian spawned /w 6X1/2 pt drf cakes
pan cyan colonizing the straw
closer of pan cyan
nice closeup of cambodian mycel growing.
the largest casin is not colonizing at near the speed of the others
In about 3 days i will case all of these with coco coir and start pinning. This is my first time using straw and i think so far so good, lets just hope it doesn?t contaminate. Also should i fan these at all while they?re colonizing the straw? (i have a couple of poly-filled holes in ea container except the top)

nice start. looks very good so far. please keep updating your pictures so we know how it?s going. you shouldn?t need to fan them until you birth them. fanning goes on when you place your casings in your terrarium. but you do want some air exchange during incubation. you shouldn?t have anything to worry about though. adios. peace.

you may want to consider taping up the botom and sides of those contaners to avoid a pinset between the container and substrate. other than that good luck to ya!!!

i plan on duct taping the sides when they?re cased. right now they?re kept in the dark so its all good. I was wondering though, should i case the pan cyans when the straw is very densly colonized, or should i case now (the mycel has grown out the top of the straw in quite a few places)?

This Pan Cyan container was cased 3 days ago and now its ready to be put in the light and given some fresh air. Pan Cyan mycel tearing through the coir casing side view. notice the polyfill holes with aquarium tubing running into the one to provide air.

today i birthed the small round cambodian casing. It look really healthy and eager to pin. the largest of the casings is still trying to colonize the coco coir and i expect it to be ready to birth within a couple days. Also i noticed a small patch of green mold on the straw before i cased it so i did my best to pull it off along with all the other hay around it. I?m pretty sure I?ll defeat the contam.

today i birthed the large cambodian casing tub. here are a few pics at different angles. Sorry about the low res pics, but all that white showing through is nice and feathery. closeup and here we have the Pan Cyan casing awaiting some pins. The mycel is very fuffy unlike cubes, it almost resembles cobweb mold.

Looks good, I would however be suspicious of all those pieces of straw poking through the casing. I always associated those with contam problems with cubensis. I know you can?t really use a deep enough casing with the pans to really keep the straw down, but you may try snipping a vew of the large ones off with some scissors and patching them. Good luck.

Cambodian: SOF - sea of feathers hyphae forming i?m hoping to have some pins by tomorrow. this casing is looking promising. the pan cyans are still putzing around. I hate waiting for them to pin because this is when i?ve had bad luck with contams in the past (or no/slow pinning)

mad pins formed from overnight. I didn?t even attempt to count the number. they?re everywhere the light brown dots are pinheads, sorry for poor res pics A lot of pins have produced their heads today, but most still are white dots which are littering the surface of the casing. The small round casing also was checked today and it has quite a few pins forming as well, just not as mature. My spring break just started today so i?m glad i?ll have a lot of little fungi to spend some time with over break.

sorry about the lack of updates guys! I currently have my only source of digital pics (sony digital cam corder) on a tripod and i can?t move it. I?m doing a time lapse over several days. I?ll post it when i harvest (maybe tues or weds). As the cambos, they have taken off, several pins are over an inch tall now. theres lots growing. also the pan cyans decided to pin a lot yesterday and today there are several around 3 inches tall but their caps are fairly small (maybe 1 cm max) but they are very white unlike the first 2.
