it'd basically be like fantasy drafting in madden or 2K

but less fun, IMO

Been done. It is in fact the granddaddy of all fantasy sports games. It's called rotisserie baseball and was invented about 25 years ago, I think, by, among others, Daniel Okrent. There is a salary cap, players are selected in an auction and there are rules for signing them to long term contracts.

Get 10 or so fucked up people together and I'll do it again. You're on or about NY right? I used to drive up to Syracuse for the auction. It is way more intense than the current lightweight shit. The auction is the season and getting out of a shit auction is basicly impossible. Of course, nobody ever thinks they had a shit auction. At first. I've won. I've lost. I stopped playing when I led the league with 50% more saves than anybody else and nobody would trade for a closer. Won going away but that left a bad taste in my mouth. Fuck em, thanks for the dough, schmuks.
