Mystery Fruit
    #561751 - 02/24/02 05:21 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

These were found in a field of tall grass, after some rain and sunshine...are these too big to see? should they be resized?

The gills are purpleish color

how do is a spore print taken with tinfoil?
Anyone know what these are?

Uh yes, definately resize, looks like a bunch of blobs of color to me. I'm on a laptop, so I cant run some crazy ass 1600x1200 resolution. From the blobs of color I saw, they look like some sort of Panaolus species... not sure though.

Peace,
-Gumby

hmmm

It certainly looks to be a type of Panaeolus.

My first and only guess would be Panaeolus acuminatus.
-A mushroom that i have never personally collected,
but is said to be extremely common in grassy areas
throughout much of North America and temperate Europe.

Also, psilocybin and/or psilocin has never been detected in this mushroom species.
-Not active..

Keep shroomin,

Thank you, they are pretty mushies though:)

I tried taking a spore print on some foil, came out really faint...

I'll try to reintroduce this print to nature and keep looking

Thanks All

Mmmm,

Those pics look suspiciously like dung bells, otherwise known as panaeolus campanulatus. These grow prolificly all over the west coast, but are not active (or only very weakly active). You weren't specific about the environment that they were found in, but I would hazard you picked it off the waste product of a large mammal. If that is the case, then that probably is a match. The primary active from your area with macroscopic similarities is psilocybe semilanceata (liberty caps). However these specimens don't looked peaked enough to be libs...
