Jars
    #5617405 - 05/11/06 02:15 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

My spores are going to be here tomorrow so I'm getting the jars ready tonight. I also ordered a pressure cooker (which will be here on Monday), but I am going to try to sterilize a few in a normal pot so I'll be able to compare the differences for myself. I'm mixing 1 part BRF, 1 part distilled water, 2 parts verm. Here is where I had a couple of questions... Can the jars be resting on the bottom of the pot or do I need to find something to set in there for them to sit on? I think the bottom may dry them out? Second, I want to have the rubberized edge of the cap facing up with the band on very loose? No water will get in from steam? And lastly will duct tape be adequate to cover the inoculation holes in the caps and keep the water out?

Thanks to all again!

Put a small rag on the bottom.

You want the rubber part down. Some things die hard(no need to put the rubber side up)

Put tin foil over you jars and you'll have no need for duct tape. Plus the tape would melt, and it wouldn't allow for any gas exchange.

thanks man! Would I want the bands on loose, tight, or does it really not matter?
