Blueing/Aborts

So I've become kind of paranoid about aborts now, and earlier tonight I cut off one of my mushies because it was starting to get some dark discoloration. I cut into the flesh of the steam with a scalpel and saw it was dark in there, but now I think I may have jumped the gun and it was just blueing from pysili oxidizing. Do you guys think it's worth the risk of losing growth to cut out a mushie I'm worried about being an abort before it rots...or is it best to just wait and see, and if it rots chuck it out?
Also any tips on differentiating between aborts and bluing would be tits.

Well, I'm no expert but i'm pretty sure you're never meant to cut mushies off (you should twist and pull them off) because it can prevent growth in that area during future flushes.
(I could be wrong but there's a tip :P)

There were a bunch of big ones growing together in a cluster so I cut the stem about a half inch away from the cake so as not to damage the other mushrooms which are still growing fine. It would suck to accidentally pull off my biggest mushies.

You always want to pull your shrooms not cut them off. The 1/2 in. that is left will rot and cause contam's.

aborts ususally won't rot, unless they came in early and the rest of your flush takes longer than normal to complete... but those few days they're there they're usually fine and you can get 'em with the rest.
when working from multispore you end up with lots of different mushrooms with different genetics. sometimes they have darker caps than others when young, and its harder to tell aborts based on the color alone... if they're darker and obviously not growing, then you know you have one... but when they're all young you don't want to just pop off the dark ones. leave em alone and sometimes they surprise you the dark colored ones end up growing up anway and turning out to look just like the rest.
