 bugs outdoors--- help

Hey, i've done a search to no avail. Anyone ever had a problem with bugs eating your caps while thier still growin? there are smaller round holes on some of the caps.. any fix for this?

Welcome to the great outdoors. There are a few remedies one can employ, though I am not a gardener. I hear a shallow dish with beer attracts slugs...
