Was Janis Joplin a tripster?

I really love her voice, and listen to her a lot when im under the influence of hardcore psychadelics. recently blotters have been going around with pictures of janis joplin on them i asked a friend and he said "ofcourse janis joplin did acid, who didnt in those days?" then i asked someone else that was into joplin and he said "joplin was just into weed and alcohol"
i know its not that important but if i found out that she was into psychadelics that could account for why i cant stop listening to her voice when im tripping

i know im not saying that the drugs make the music. she was a junkie? well i was wondering what kind of drugs she was into because i think i recall reading something about her being accidentally dosed with acid and being upset about it. which would imply she was not into tripping but just drinking and smoking. i call it going "pigpen" (gratefuldead reference)

Janis was first of all an alcoholic of Southern Comfort and then a junkie.
I have seen her at many concerts when I klived in Haight-Ashbury and on a few ocassions I have seen her fall on her face while performing at the Straight Theater, the Avalon Ballroom, Carousel Ballroom, WInterland, etc.
So much for her gracefullness. Yeah she smoked pot. But Booze and smack were her meat.

im sorry im just used to being flamed on messageboards - but i forgot this was the shroomery
anyways i just very recently got into janis joplin and did not even know that she died of a heroin overdose. so the shroomery is giving me a better education than im getting at school.

Around this time her drug use began to increase, and she acquired a reputation as a "speed freak" and occasional heroin user. She also used other intoxicants. She was a heavy drinker throughout her career, and her trademark beverage was Southern Comfort.
For more info on her, check:

First of all, who would be happy after finding out you have been dosed without permission? That's just not cool. Southern Comfort was her drink of choice, and, yes, she did like H. way too much. As far as I'm concerned, drugs play an essential role in the lives of the great actors/musicians. And it makes them who they are, and gives them the edge they need to overcome fears and let the artistry shine through. The edge is sometimes too sharp, and they fall. Belushi, Farley, Janis, JERRY-- All have left a smile on this planet. Quite frankly, the artists who have " cleaned up " have lost their edge. Still are practicing thier craft successfully, but just don't have that special something that makes people take notice. Peace

the weather man sucked
i made a point about this a while ago.. almost all of the great musicians have been addicted to smack... cause when your living on the edge, basically dead.. creative genius seems to flow much more easily

O.K. There's always 1 in the group.
*Cage Fan* But seriously, I believe my point stands for a general statement. Besides, it's all just opinions, anyway.
Just putting my 2cents in. Peace

The Weathermen? Which one?
But the new CD that he cleaned up for was Hells Winter. It's my favorite album that he's done. I actually have it in my CD player in my car RIGHT NOW.
