werid theory on how to grow super shrooms
    #5612909 - 05/10/06 02:08 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I had this idea while taking a crap today, I thought back to my years in high school biology. What if you could introduce a wide spectrum of vitamins and mineral into the growing substrate?? Mushrooms like all other organisms would have to have a similar range of nutrient requiremenst and this would have to include a menue that suprisingly could meet its demands from a human vitamin supplement. So if you could someone manage to inject vitamins into the medium, (but you can't boil or heat the vitamins during the steralization process cause heat kill vitamins) then it might be possible to get healthier shrooms.

Fungi are their own kingdom, not like humans or any other organisms. I like the thoughts and all, but no go.

theoretically... It may work because "Thiamine, or vitamin B1, was the first vitamin to be discovered. Traditionally, “brown” or whole grain rice was a staple food in many Oriental countries."

B1 would be in the brown rice like in a pf tek....If that affects it at all, maby. Because you can grow shrooms on white rice, but their potency=deadshitontopofawhalesvagina. Maby teh shrooms use this vitamin?

This stuff might not be right...But maby it is

You're right that mushrooms have a nutrition requirement, but wrong in assuming its like humans.  You're on the right path here but a very very long way off.  Yes, we want everything they need there to be healthy, but that doesn't mean you can just throw some of everything in there and hope for the best.  Sometimes more of certain things is bad - fats in humans for example, if we ate 0 fat, we could not survive.  Does that automatically mean we should eat tons of fat because more must be better?  There's correct ratios for things, and certain nutrients and minerals work in combination with eachother.  I rambled on earlier today in  this other thread if you want to see more (including some links that illustrate the differences between brown and white rice, vitamin B1 only scratches the surface!)

If we could pin-point exactly what it is a mushroom needs (and especially what it needs to produce actives) then maybe we could make a multivitamin for mushrooms :-)  :mushroom2:
