I have 12 jars of mixed brf/verm pf tek sitting in an incubator full of bleach/water mixture I made at about 80 degrees. Today is the 3rd day, and no signs of growth at all. What could the problem be?

the problem would be you havnt waited long enough. give em 10 days, then start worrying. what strain? i know my B+ started colonization wayyy before my Golden teachers. The B+ was done in about 2 weeks, but the GT took more like a month to colonize.

Also, I would ditch the bleach/water mixture and get that tin foil off the top. Tin foil doesn't breathe and won't allow for FAE

why ditch the bleach/water mixture? just use plain water? I thought bleach would keep contams away .. also, do I need a lid? I just moved my jars to a smaller incubator .. for some reason I didn't see any growth when I pulled them out of the water initally, but I let them sit for a few mins and dry off and now I can see all of them are doing great. Better than I expected, actually.
I am using Ecuador strain.

i heard something once about gases from bleach being harmful to mycellium. As long as you have a dry vermiculite (non-nutritious) layer at the top of your mixtures, contams wont get in.. if your worried about the water getting moldy, abit of bleach is fine but dont get carried away.. i just pour in abit of H2O2 with the water and i save the bleach for cleaning..

ok... first off the bleach & water is fine. a good idea in fact. however, setting your jars directly in the water is a disaster waiting to happen. if a jar falls over its good as done for. notice everyone uses "tub in tub" incubators... not "tub full 'o water" incubators since you just said you got a smaller container, leave the jars in it, and float the smaller container in the bigger one you had before. cover up the whole thing with a towel or a blanket to keep heat in.
for your holes, you can either loosen up the foil so its not on tight if you're paranoid, or just take it off all together. your growing mycelium will love the gas exchange the open holes give. your dry verm barrier at the top of your jars will keep them safe.

whoah whoah whoah.... holy shit. sitting your jars in a water/bleach mixture is definitely a problem/not a good idea. i hope none leaked into your jars.

the water isn't filled to the top of the jars, a little above half way. it won't leak into the jars but i'll change it with peroxide; ( i didn't like the bleach idea either ). i'll probably keep the tin foil on, I fear contams! also, I don't think my jars are going to fall over.. and I don't have much spare to do a tub-in-tub. does anyone else have any other suggestions? I can't go any higher than the tub I have; the height is perfect.
