I'll toss Shroomism and you can stay here instead.
Poor Des! How the hell did that happen?

I'm so sorry, Des! How did it happen and what all did you fail to save? That's really horrible, but at least you're not harmed physically.

I know first hand how horrible fires are. My freshman year in college my dorms caught fire and I lost literally EVERYTHING but the clothes on my back. The thing that sucks is my stuff never actually burned. The building was built in the 40s and they used asbestos as insulation. When the firefighters put the fire out the asbestos was disturbed and contaminated everything on my floor. Great way to start out my college career
My best friend's house also caught fire when I was a senior in highschool. All his shit was literally destroyed by the heat. Thosands of dollars of guitars, drums, amps, pedals, etc. I remember I heard about the fire from a friend and drove over to his house after it was over and there was a huge pile of melted and scorched musical equipment in the backyard where the firefighters threw it out the window that they busted out. Horrible, horrible shit.
I feel for ya Des. It can be really devistating and leave you feeling completely helpless. Hopefuly you had fire insurance. I just hope that you kept good records and have receipts for everything, or can get them. I think in most cases insurance remburses you 50-90% of the cost of what you lost. You should be able to go back in so you can make a record of all your stuff. I wasn't allowed to go back in because of the cancer risk. They covered about 60% of my losses, thank god my parents were financially stable enough to help me replace what they didn't cover.
Don't be afraid to seek counciling. I sure did. One of the first things I did was get my self to a psychologist then psychiartist. They put me on antidepressants for post traumatic stress disorder (PSTD). That helped big time. I can still say I have an irrational fear of fires. Every time a smoke alarm goes off I almost have a heart attack.
You'll make it through this though! Rebuild, rebuy, come to terms with things and and move on. It'll stick with you for a long time, but at least you have your life (and your basses)!
Very sorry to hear about your losses, but glad you're alright. Stay strong

I just got internet access back. Yes we had insurance and the house is repairable. I'm still not sure how it started. Everyone was okay and we're all living in a motel for the time being. Insurance is paying for everything. It's nice to see you all again.

Don't forget to tell the insurance company about your gold chairs. And your diamond encrusted ceiling fan
But seriously that sucks. Good to hear you made it out unscathed.
