wtf dose microwave Ic mean.
If your refering to doing an extraction using a microwave, Its NOT a good idea.
Ethanol can superheat, And not even look like its boiling untill what ever is holding the ethanol is moved, Then its like a volcano of bubbles untill it cools to normal boiling tempreture.

Um, the other day i did a honey liquid culture thing with the micro, so far the spores haven't germed? But yea...I nuked the water for 5 mins, the nadded honey and shaked, then i nuked for 4 more mins, make sure you have holes in the lid if your nuking shit, or it will puff up or explode. Its fun putting eggs in the microwave and then nuking them.

boom

It will work - SOMETIMES.
If you use a plastic lid, on a glass jar?
You can nuke an LC, several times to boiling.
Be sure the lid is a half turn loose, when nuking.
Then, tighten lid, when you remove the jar from the microwave.
Allow jar to cool over-night, before inoculation.

here's a simple LC microwave tek i've used. definitely can't take credit for it however. Also, its not guaranteed to work 100% of the time and is likely to contam after a couple of syringe draw ups.

1.Use a glad plastic container.
2.Fill up with water and karo/honey to your desired mixed ratio.
place plastic wrap over container(sort of a contam shield).
3.place lid over container, leaving a corner open for steam to exit.
4.microwave for 5-6 min.
5.let it sit till cool. sometimes if you take out the container too soon it will warp.
6. Knock it up when completely cool.

Personally IMO, glass jars with a plastic lid is a better idea. But if you're going to go through the effort of constructing plastic canning lids for LCs, then why not just PC...? Which is foolproof.

the other solution of course is to just steam it in a normal pot of water if you dont have a pc, i normaly do mine 2-3 hours

My currently growing LCs were done by using glass jars with 250ml water and 1.5 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (not the imitation stuff). After stirring, I place a bubble of plastic wrap around the top and cook in microwave for 2-3 mins until lightly boiling. Then I wait a minute or so, and do it again. Repeat one more time, and as soon as the jars stop releasing a ton of steam (getting rid of the rest of the alcohol remaining in jar from extract) I seal them up with alcohol swabbed metal caps with 2 polyfill filled tubed air ports. Once completely cooled I inject 3-5cc of spore solution in each. Today is day 5 of my LC and both jars are looking very healthy. The only thing that sucks about vanilla extract is the color, its hard to spot contams (any help on this?) but there are many strands of myc growing and when stirred I can see a cloud swirling around the jar. Just trying to show how microwave is decent for this.

why did you use vanilla?

microwaving stuff is fine, the only thing I don't like about it is that parts of the container can remain unsterilised depending on where they are in relation to the liquid.

I sterilise things in the oven, I don't like using the pressure cooker to sterilse stuff (seems like too much effort).

When I put jars in to sterilise I cover the filter's with foil lids. I measured my jars before and after oven sterilisation and didn't measure a single gram of difference, literally. So, provided you foil cap them, drying isn't something you have to worry about.

If I'm sterilising something that's entirely metal or glass I'll usually just foil wrap it very tightly and bake it at 230 C for half an hour. Nothing's coming out the other side of that alive!  :smirk:

i use vanilla because there arent any home brew places for malt, and i've heard of and seen nice results with it, as long as you get the alcohol out of the liquid first
