I don't even know where to begin here. I'm not even sure why I'm really typing this as I don't see anything to gain from it, but I feel like sharing it with another human being right now I guess.
Basically, to make a long story short, shit hit the fan today and I felt like I wanted to blow my brains out. This was no cry for help-if I had a firearm I would have pulled it out and put it to my head and pulled the trigger,no bullshit. (I don't mean to alarm people...just telling the god honest truth.)
Since I didn't have a gun lying around, I more or less just started walking into a wooded area, and when I couldn't go any further, I just sat down...and just looked at a tree...for probably a good two hours. (It didn't dawn on me at the time I was meditating or anything, it just seemed like the thing to do since I had nowhere else to go or anything better to do.) Anyway, my mind started to do some wierd things. I went through every concievable emotion I can think of. I didn't attach myself to anything, just let them pass. Basically when it was all said and done, probably after an hour or two (I'm not really sure)I just gave in totally and my ego started to melt away. I wasn't just breathing, I was existing in the here and now and that was all that mattered. A profound peace came over me. No white light or anything crazy mystical like that, just total tranquility.
I've had experiences on acid kind of like this years ago, but different in a way I can't begin to put into words. This was in a way almost as good though.
I don't even consider myself "spirtual" or anything like that-in fact I'm a pretty hardcore rationalist- but I can't deny what happened. I had some kind of Zen like experience, there is no doubt in my mind.
Anyways, this ever happen to anyone else? You just kind of went through mental overload and everything just kind of cleared itself up through meditation or something similar?

You had a glimpse...
Might i recommend a book to you? If you haven't read it already check out 'The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle. That book is a practical guide to achieving the state you just described. You can feel that clarity all the time if you choose to.

Yeah,I really need to start meditating. I tried it before but it felt really forced and I just got bored and gave up.
No offense, but I'm not sure if anyone could feel like that all the time. One of the points of was trying to make is that these "glimpses" seem to come spontaneously. It was basically a nervous breakdown with a positive outcome.
In any case, I feel sleep will come easy tonight for this insomniac.
Thanks. I'll look into that book though.

I used to be in the meditation club at my school. It was the best hour of every week. It's interesting how you have awareness of self while you're out engaged in other activities, but once you turn inward to find yourself, there's no self to be found.

This is going to sound really cliche and pretentious (at least to me), but I feel so profoundly at peace with myself right now I want everyone to feel like this.
I just have the feeling in a day or two it will be the same old shit though for some reason. Oh well, I'll enjoy it while it lasts.

The only thing that can change about your day.........
is your attitude toward it.
If you're filled with peace now.......that is all that matters........now.
Tomorrow never comes......all we have is now
If you have a good attitude about your life now......keep that attitude always.....and you will always have peace in your life.
