My understanding is that with light, pinning could be initiated. Which would be undesirable.

once had the same question:

it doesnt matter light or dark. Mine happen to be in the dark, but it's more of a convenience thing

you can do both but if you incubate in the light you loose light as one of your pinning triggers. this is beucase you will not be able to 'shock' then with lighyt ive they have been sitting in light for weeks.

you still have other pinning triggers left in your hat though.

Look at it this way. In the wild, mushrooms begin fruiting once they reach the surface of their substrate. Once they reach the surface, they are first exposed to light. The light is how they know they have actually reached the surface. Therefore, there is an obvious natural correlation between initial light exposure and the initiation of fruiting. Therefore, I say incubate in the dark.

Thanks Everyone!  I think I got it  .  So then it seems that it would be good if they were incubated in the dark at 80 degreez till they fully colonize, then theyr temp should be droped to bout 70 degreez and they should be given light so they start to pin. Then when they pin enoughf and get li'l shroomy bits in it they could go into the FC, right?

I've always incubated in total darkness which BTW won't prematurely initiate pinning as well as giving me the most bang (triggers) for the buck!

Wrong, all those conditions you described are fruiting conditions, FC conditions. In otherwords when fully colonized they go into the FC. GL

Hey Hyphae  !  Yea thats what I mean.  I just wanted to make shure that I got the PF tek down from start to finish.  From what I understand ya gotta incubatem at 80 in the dark till theyr fully colonized(a week or 2), then ya lower the heat down to bout 70 and givem light to initate pinning and when they pin ya takem outta theyr jars and putem in the FC and givem temps of about 70 and high humidity and a bit of light to getem to fruit.  Do I got this rite?

Yea I think thats what I meen too.  If I got a TIT keepin the inoculated jars at about 80 thats suposed to be good for incubatin, then when I see that the jars are fully colonized Im suposed to lower the temp to bout 70 and givem a bit of light until they pin, at wich point Im suposed to birthem into the FC rite?  Please have patience with me I think I got it but I could just use a bit of reasurance  .

Holey Shitt! Wait up!  I think I get what Yas mean!  I could wait for them to colonize in the TIT at 80 degreez and then once their fully colonized I could putem in the FC to get their light and 70 degreez temps, then I could takem outta theyr jars once they start to pin. Is that what Yas mean  ?

Much closer but no cigar! LOL Once fully colonized birth them (take them out of the jars) and put them in the FC where conditions are favorable for pinning and fruiting 74-77F and 95-98% RH up until then incubate at 82-86F optimally. GL you'll get it soon enough! Also look up dunking as well as rolling and double ending these will increase yields and are something you'll want to do at birth.

Thanks Spex! and Thanks again Hyphae!  Im gonna do just what Ya sugested bout gettin familiar with dunkin, casin and dubble endin . Im also gunna take your advice bout the 82-86f incubation temps and also what Ya said bout birthinem when their fully colonized into the FC at 74-77f at 95-98%rh  !  Thanks again Hyphae!  Youl make a Shroomer outta me yet  !  Could you recomend me a good brand of humidifyer?  Somethin that would take care of 2 x 50 gallon Rubbermaid FC's would be great!  Im also figurin out somekinda FAE system but if yous got any sugestions Im listenin  !

Man this is really xcitin  !  I dont get out much.  Heh heh... Theres some WIKKIDASS systems on this site!  -Well I shure do think I got it now.  Theyl go from the TIT to the fruit chambers once they fully colonize. -What would be bout the best stuff to put on the floor of the FC's to hold humidity?  These things are huge, bout 4'x2'!  I figure I'l dunkem before I putem in the FC's but Im still figurin out what I wanna put in the bottom of the FC's to hold the humidity and I still gotta figure out what kinda humidifyer to go with. Mabey I could put the humidifyer betweenem and run the humidity to them threw some dryer vent hose or somethin.  Il mount a couple of small fans onem to push air intoem a fyew times a day for FAE and I'l drill some holes near the bottoms for co2 maintainance. I'l cut holes in the tops and coverem with clear plastic for light. Hows all this sound so far?  I think I got it covered prety good but I shure would preciate some profesional criteek  !
