question about colonization

got a question, about a month ago i injected some mazatapec spores into a myco bag. the fish tank heater i was using for my incubator was too small but i had to use it because it was better than nothing. i checked on them only about once a week, sometimes i didnt even check. about 5 days ago i bought a better heater, and now the temp. is right, and after 5 days the grain stuff in the bag seems to be getting harder in the center. is this a sign of colonization or just getting dry because it's hot? also was it ok to move them to a new temp. after so long?

Hmm, might be low on moisture. Had some mycobags that were too cold too long and never saw any growth. Then when I did get the bags at the right temp they seemed really hard in the center. So I injected 10cc's of water into the hard bags. Within about 13 days I had partially colonized bags. I butchered the uncolonized parts and birthed them. Didn't get a big yield, but I did get somethin. Then after that I decided piss on the mycobag and just try the PF tek, then I realized how easy all this is if you just follow directions and pay attention. Plus it's way cheaper to do it yourself than buy those bags. Nothing wrong with them, they're just for beginners.
So maybe try addin some more water. Or add to one bag and see how it compairs to the others in about a week. If it's like what I went through, it couldn't hurt.

colonization speed has many factors:
water content substrate content airiness/compactness strain you are using.
just wait, no one can give you an exact answer on colonization speed, it is different in every circumstance.
If you inoculate two identical jars with the same syringe, one could finish faster than the other. Just wait it out and hope for no contams.
