Hey there onehitaquita111... ad astra per aspera
In terms of psychoactive mushrooms, Kansas isn’t they greatest place to find one’s self. You will need to focus primarily on looking for Panaeolus subbalteatus… look for them associated with cattle and horse manure and the hay the animals eat. I have found them a few times in well tended fertilized lawns, usually around universities, hospitals, large banks, etc.
A handful of Gymnopilus species are found in this state on a fairly regular basis however they are more often restricted to later in the season… august/septemberish. I have no direct knowledge of any psychoactive Gym collections here… however I have no firsthand knowledge of anyone conducting experiments with them either. I certainly haven’t felt inclined to experiment with collections I have made however i may give it a whirl this year.
I hope you are in north eastern Kansas as the other portions of the state don’t seem to be particularly rich in fungi of any species. Of the near 1000 species reported in the state, most have been found in the north east. There are a great many edible mushrooms in kansas, check your local library for "A Guide to Kansas Mushrooms" by Bruce Horn, Richard Kay, and Dean Abel.
good luck georgem
