Just curious who likes these bands?
I have always fucking HATED emo music with a passion, until I heard these bands. I really love their style of music and I am surprised that I could adapt to their style of singing(emo).
It almost makes me feel like I'm succumbing to the emo scene. I may like these bands, but the day you catch me with long/messy black hair with a tote bag and tight jeans is the day I die.
I fucking hate emo kids and the emo scene, but I like these bands... anyone else with me?

i like both of those bands but listening to a band doesn't make you into a stereotype. i mean i like metal too but i look nothing like a metal head. besides, you know you want to wear the tight pants!

Neither do I, but I find the only respectable band classified as emo is Thrice.

I think Fall Out Boy is terrible. Never heard the other one though.

My girlfriend's parents got XM Radio for their car and this channel was playing such a good set of rock 'n roll and all of a sudden Fall Out Boy came on and ruined everything.

I don't think emo is a meaningful term anymore. Maybe two or three years ago, but not anymore. I used to have venomous hatred for this thing called emo, but I eventually realized that it wasn't the music I hated so much as the assholes I knew who listened to it.
I like Death Cab For Cutie, even though some would say it is emo. But I don't really have a handle on what "emo" even means, except short for "emotional", and I don't know of any good music that isn't emotional. Panic! is a good band. They have some pretty clever shit, and I don't give a fuck if they're emo.
Duke Ellington used to say that genres are meaningless, and that music is either good or it's bad. And there's no arguing with the Duke.

why consider DCFC emo? because they write about meaningful things? I've always considered DCFC, and bands like them more indie rock than anything else. I think Ben Gibbard is the best lyric writer today.

What is emo then? I've heard Death Cab called emo, but what does that mean exactly? My only point is that genres are bullshit.
BTW Gibbard and Conor Oberst, for me, share the bill as the two greatest songwriters today. Gibbard has better melodic sense, but Oberst is a lyrical genius.

XM does that shit, but Sirius can repetitively roll out with constant good music without changing a channel.
Panic! is pretty cool.
