Over-cased Pan Cyans and other mistakes...Any hope?
    #5607008 - 05/08/06 11:07 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I kept patching my cyan casings until I was told to QUIT PATCHING AND LEAVE THEM ALONE! After the last time I patched them they pretty much stopped growing. Now I have about 1/2-1" of casing material in there and after two weeks of babying the mycelium stopped growing through the casing and no primordia. Being new to casings I thought you had to patch until it stopped growing through... I realize now that I fucked up! If I continue to leave them alone will they eventually grow out? Have I ruined the possibillity? Can I scrape off some casing material? The other cubensis casing I have isn't showing any signs of growth after two weeks...

I also have another question. The first round of pans I tried I over-misted them until they drown. Yeah, I know, I gotta learn to be more moderate with these here mushy things (So I'm finding out). Anyway, my question is this: How much can you over-water a casing before it's not recoverable? If I over-water once will it recover? Is it better to under water or over water? My tendency is to go overboard to give the mush what it needs. Unfortunately it's possible to have too much of a good thing. I'm finding this fruiting thing to be pretty hard for me in many ways; cakes were easy, this is proving to be much more difficult than I expected. I'm getting pretty frustrated with casing. I'm beginning to feel like a complete failure and unfit for mushroom growing. I've been at it for a few months now with no positive end results. I have a pan of F+ ready for the fruiting chamber and I'm petrified I'm going to screw it up. HELP, what am I doing wrong? Stop me before I kill again!

I'm using a unitub aproach. Fruiting temps @ 71-77 (temp fluctuates due to the grow florescent grow lamp) I have a fan blowing on the FC. The electronic hygrometer reads "HI" all the time. I assume this means 90-100% humidity but I'm not sure how accurate that is.

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate
