heart problems while stoned

2 years ago in grade 11 I used to smoke weed almost every weekend and sometimes during the week, and it was really fun during the summer of grade 11 I started experimenting with other drugs like shrooms.
Then when grade 12 was just starting on September 10 2004 I did allot of shrooms at my friends house and had a not so pleasant trip, ever since then I cant smoke weed and enjoy it.when i do i trip out so hard and my heart pounds,my neck gets tight and i shake uncontrollably.
I quit smoking weed altogether.I didn't want to but i couldn't smoke weed and have a good time like i did in grade 11.I tried starting up again, and started slow only taking a couple hoots.but then when i would get stoned enough it would happen again.does any body know how to stop this from happening.I don't think its a panic attack because I'm calm the whole time and i am breathing normally but then my heart starts going BOOM boom boom boom BOOM boom boom boom and its really uncomfortable

either give in to the intensity or give up smoking you want smokign to be the same...well it probably wont, things change, accept it or dont do it anymore. maybe your tellign yourself soemthing is different (which it is) but then thinkign that its wrong to feel that way, which causes discomfort

Marijuana increases your heart rate for sure- which explains you being calm and your heart going "BOOM boom boom (I want you in my room... to spend the night foreverrr, forever in my room) "... haha sorry, that really just made me think of that horrific song!
Take deep breathes and try not to focus in on it as much and try not to dwell on past negative experiences, and this BOOM boom booming should slowly fade away- however if it really is as an intense beating of your heart then you really shouldn't be smoking. Maybe get your heart checked out as well?

The EXACT same thing happened to me after i got into mushrooms. I still smoke and i just remember that the heart thing is just a hollucination. Your heart isnt in any kind of danger. I just remember that no one has ever died from mushrooms or herbs so its no big deal. I just ry to relax and pay attention to what im doing instead of whats going on inside my body. If i were you i wouldnt give up on herb all together. Peace

^^ Well don't give up something you truly love
Great idea to meditate before though- be one with the zen, hehe.
May I suggest trying a few hits BY YOURSELF and not around friends, until you get the hang of it again? But like others said, you have to remember that you aren't going to die and that your heart-rate will increase on THC- but that's perfectly normal. Let us (me) know how it goes , I wish you the best of luck and hope you can dance with Mary again soon

That used to happen to me. That is until I was diagnosed with Panic attack and anxiety Disorder. And my Doctor gave me PAXIL. I still notice the pounding heart I just don't really care about it anymore. I quit for a little until the Paxil kicked in.
One Time when I was smoking I thought I was having a heart attack because I sat down and my chest started burning and then I couldn't sit down and I was just walking around until I came down from my High.
Do you have any of these symptoms? * raging heartbeat * difficulty breathing, feeling as though you 'can't get enough air * terror that is almost paralyzing * nervous, shaking, stress * heart palpitation, feeling of dread * dizziness, lightheadedness or nausea * trembling, sweating, shaking * choking, chest pains, distress * fear, fright, afraid, anxious * hot flashes, or sudden chills * tingling in fingers or toes ('pins and needles') * fearful that you're going to go crazy or are about to die So its kinda all in your head. Try not to think about it. Like just have friends with you or listen to some Pink Floyd - Echoes. I LOVE PINK FLOYD. Fav band.

I have the exact same problem, I didn't eat shrooms however, it just kind of happened. I was an avid pot smoker but now every time i try and smoke weed my mind goes crazy. I feel as if I'm going to have a heart attack, I panic and start getting these tremors. Knowing that isn't a normal feeling I've quit altogether. This kind of disappoints me though because i loved the feeling i used to get when I was high. oh well.

Well you said you are completely calm and the only issue is your heart pounding. It's an entirely different story if anxiety as well, is involved.

I've got the same problem. I doubt shrooms triggered it, though. I started getting panic attacks because my heart was pounding so hard, so I stopped smoking for 7 months, and had no desire to smoke for the longest time. I gained an interest in trying it again and had a pretty good time for a couple weeks of smoking, then it did it again. I didn't have a panic attack, but my heart was pounding out of my chest and I nearly fainted.. and this was from only one hit of dank. I've got no clue what triggers my heart to do this.. sometimes it's "normal"(given THC increases heart rate a bit), and sometimes my heart pounds so hard it shakes my whole body. It may have to do with how much THC is in the bud. Try smoking some middies or less.

something to do would be to possibly grow your own weed or find a different dealer. certain strains of marijuana don't have the "fast heartbeat" effect, or at least not as much as others. I don't know much about it, but I believe the high indica content strains more often produce the fast heartbeat/couchlock effect.
down here in FL it's practically all we get, or all I can find anyway, and everyone accepts it as "what weed is supposed to be like." I however, remember being able to smoke pot and wanting/being able to go out and do things. so just remember, though all weed has a standard effect on you, certain strains will have other effects.

I took a break from smoking weed for awhile, I just quit after smoking heavily for a year. After coming back to it after my break, I found that I had the same problem. I've realized though that I had just gotten used to it before, gradually building up from smoking a little to eventually smoking alot and abruptly going back into smoking heavily produced effects that I wasn't able to handle again. I kinda like being a light weight again, I get insanely stoned off a very small amount =)

I'm with you guys on this one. One day it's like my pot mentality just broke down and now whenever I get really stoned, I just feel nervous, jittery, heart pounds, mind races. You know, "The Fear." It's just really uncomfortable. All I did though was quit for a while and it eased up a bit. I smoke about three times a day now, but only minute amounts at a time, so I haven't had any problems lately.

I dont believe that it is a panic attack and most doctors are pretty ignorant of the physiological effects of marijuana. Marijuana creates a state of postural hypotension in some people. This manifests at its worse in fainting in some rare people, but in most it may cause dizziness. When blood pressure is reduced to the brain, your body turns on your norepinephrine to increase blood pressure to the brain. However, this actually has a negative effect as well, as it can dilate the carotid arteries, meaning a further decrease in blood pressure to the brain. The result of all this is that your dizzy and spaced out (apart from being stoned! ) and your autonomic nervous system is going crazy from norepinephrine - with symptoms like anxiety, heart palpitations, tachycardia, hand tremors and feeling clamy. Feel for people with Dysautonomia - without medication these people can feel like this 24/7.

Yup. At first, it started with weed. Then over a couple years, without smoking BTW, it became a horrible constant in my life. Im typing this while a XANAX sits under my tongue. Thank god for benzos.... Even if I dont take a big enough hit to get me high, I still have the problems. Mostly heart palpitations.
