Texas ID Please Help, Multiple Types
    #5605020 - 05/08/06 01:25 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I went out last night and found all these mushies in a new field, and I am not sure of the types. It has been raining in heavy spurts every few days for the last 2 or 3 days, but it did not rain yesterday. These were found in a cow field, some on patties, but honestly it was dark enough that I cannot remember which were on patties and which appeared to be in grass. There is a picture with all the mushroom on one sheet, and for size comparisons assume A has a cap diameter of 2 inches, size according to that.

A and B I am pretty sure are cubes, but I'm fairly novice. You can obviously see the color, but the gils are a dark chocolate brown almost black, the stem didn't bruise as much as it did have an almost purple sheen to it. C I am not sure about, but the gills are very dark. Ignore D. E I am not sure, the larger one has purple/greyish gills, while the small ones wet gills were white, but now after drying are dark brown. I am not sure if all 3 in the E photo are the same, yet they are similar. F and G are very similar except the gils on F are brown, and the gils on G are solid white. The tops look identical with lines going from the center to the edges. I have not noticed prominent bruising on any of them, but then again I am not really sure what I am looking for. These were found in College Station, TX, and a positive ID would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A, B, and E look like Agaricus species. F appears to be a Coprinus. C looks like an inactive Panoleus of some kind. And G looks a lot like F, but the spore print seems to not be black so I'm not too sure.

These are just guesses. I'll be interested to see what the pros think. Nice pictures and descriptions though. It might help if you describe the spore print colors as though can be difficult to get a good feel fro from photos.

sorry to burst your bubble but defiantly not cubes more like a agaricus to me and E/F would be non inky coprinus. I am no mod or expert so don't listen to me. I love how you labeled your pics.

I live in southeastern oklahoma, and I have just picked a few colonies (about 8-10 a piece) that look exactly like those in pictures C. I picked them out of cow dung after in rained this morning. They were slimy.

Good post but nothing active. If you're looking in cow fields, the mushrooms you are after will bruise a blueish colour and have a dark purple/black spore print. If they don't, they're not hallucinogenic.

just kinda curious but if the spore print is purple or black, does that generally mean the gills are going to be a darker color such as purple or black.

Only as the mushroom gets older and spoors out!
A Cubensis will pop its veil and the gills will be almost white.. But soon after they will turn dark as the spoor is drooped and it starts to show as a purple black hue on the gills and membrane remnants on the stem and .. Well all over.. I have seen smaller mushrooms black on top from a larger brother or sister that had shat it spoor on the smaller mushrooms below.
