HELP! What is this growing on my Kratom plant??

I found some type of growth on the underside of the leaves of my kratom plant. I also noticed that there are little tiny bugs crawling around the leaves. I've been using need oil on occasion to kill the bugs, but today a leaf fell off and I found this on the underside of the leaf and many other leaves on the plant. The Kratom plant is kept outdoors. Here's a picture. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like scale insects to me. Notice how they are only around the veins and midrib. They are feeding on the juices from the vascular tissues of the leaf.

The bumps that you see on the viens of the plant are dried in place. The plant has small ant-like insects crawling on it most of the time. They're like ants, but smaller. I could brush off the bumps that accumulate on the leaves, but should I? No matter what I do it seems impossible to get rid of the insects for more than a day. What should I do?

Don't try to hijack people's threads, especially seeing as how it is so incredibly unrelated to yours.
Let's continue where we left off:

Those aren't aphids. I say scale bugs.

i agree, not aphids.
nevertheless i reccomend you kill the bastards.
try some tobacco or pepper/garlic water first, judging by the leaf itself id say these arent the most agressive bugs.
as opposed to say mites, in wich case id suggest WMD's and chemical warfare.

They look like scale insects to me. Many scale insects secrete a sweet substance for ants which then protect them. What I would do is try safers soap, or if neem is working for you, use it. You have to hit the undersides of the leaves and spray every day for at least a couple weeks. I just won a battle with aphids on one of my voacanga africana plants. It took a month to win that one. They just kept coming back and coming back. Each time there are less of them. The danger is in thinking that you won the battle and stop spraying. Then after a week or so you see they are back worse than ever. You have to spray them every day for a min of 2 weeks and then every 2 days for another 2 weeks. If you do a good job, that should do it. Another thing you could try with scale is horticultural oil. If you use it, try it on a few leaves and see if the plant tollerates it well. It should work fine.
