Did your instructor give you any information on these fungi or are you flying blind? First off, you won't be looking for mushrooms on this assignment. If you search google, you'll find some basic descriptions, but you have to spell Deuteromycota right first . The Deuteromycota is an artificial grouping of fungi that have no known sexual state; in other words, the group includes many different types of fungi that don't sexually reproduce. This group of fungi is also known as the imperfect fungi. Probably the easiest fungi from this group to find are Aspergillus and Penicillium species. These fungi are often found on food that's been kept too long. Nasty stuff in your fridge, moldy bread, etc. Sexual states have been found for some Aspergillus and Penicillium species (so these should not be included in the imperfect fungi), but many seem to have lost the ability completely.
