This is what happens after 13 years of collecting pennies (Updated 9-9-06)
    #5600944 - 05/07/06 12:59 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

So I finally filled up this coke bottle piggy bank. I decided to weigh it so I could estimate how much money was in it (it weighed 79lbs btw), but when I took it off the scale and set it on the ground it burst and my pennies flooded my floor. ROAR.

Someone help me with the math here, I'm too stoned...

A penny weighs 1/10th of an ounce and there are 16 ounces in a pound. If I have 79 pounds of pennies, about how much money is it? I came up with around 126 bucks, but I'm retarded at basic math questions like this so I could be wrong.

the only way to tell is to put them all into rolls and then add up the rolls of pennies.

Here's a monkey wrench being thrown into the calculation:  Before a certain year (sometime in the 60's) pennies were made out of different stuff than they are now.  Some pennies will be different weights.

Better yet.. some banks now have coin machines you can use free of charge, without having an account.

I use Coinstar to turn in my old change. Coinstar machines charge 8.9 cents per dollar. An 8.9% return for a few minutes of work... What a racket.

Taken from the link I posted.

The mass of a penny has changed throughout the years. The first Lincoln cent was produced in 1909 and had the wheat ears pattern on the reverse side. The composition of the penny was pure copper from 1793 to 1837. Then following that, it was made of bronze, and in 1857, it was made out of copper. In 1943, the content of the coin was changed to zinc coated steel because of the copper shortage during World War 11. Before 1982, pennies were 95% copper and 5% zinc. Then after 1982, the compostion was 97.6% zinc, and 2.4% copper. So this means that the pennies made before 1982 will have a different mass from those made after 1982.

That looks like some shit that I would do. Your hands will be all dirty as hell by the time you get all of those picked up. Pennies are useless. I think they should be taken out of circulation, personally. 126 bucks will help though.

10 penies * 16 ounces = 160 penies per pound

$1.60 * 79 pounds = $126.40

Now you have to figure out how much that bottle of yours weighs, you can't forget the "TARE" weight. Your dollar total will be a little less, can't imagine that bottle weighing more than maybe several pounds.

The bottle probably only weighs about a pound, or 2. It's made from thinnish plastic.

Found some AWESOME rolls in Birmingham, Friday night!!! Grade A mdma, felt like a mda mix, too. Speedy. My favorite. I'm supposed to be getting some more, but it's not for sure.

My nieces came over yesterday and were amazed by all the pennies. They elected themselves to clean it up for me, I had them put all of the pennies in a cooler. This is what it looks like now:

I refuse to take this shit to a Coinstar station. It would take like 5 hours to get them through the machine. Not to mention I'd look like a retard carrying a cooler full of pennies into a Winn-Dixie. I think a bank here has a machine that will do it for free.

That is a good point that some pennies will weight more/less. I don't want to think about that so I'll keep my general estimate. I should bring it up to the bank and ask them what I should do.

I saw Sister Hazel(:puke:) and left after 2-6 dollar tall boy cans of bud light. Went to a banging party, after that. I was up until sunrise.

My change jars are silver only, I don't do pennies. I spend them whenever possible. When I roll change I want big returns on the time invested.

I came up with around 126 bucks, but I'm retarded at basic math questions like this so I could be wrong.

be greatful it didnt burst over hardwood floor.

altho i would lmao if it had.

Honestly, If you dont need that money real bad, just spend a few minutes a day rolling the pennies up when you have nothing else to do, say after smoking a jay and throwing on some music.

After a few days I guarantee youll have them all nicely rolled up.

No coinstar bullshit, no hassles, no stress.

Just always carry like 20 of them in your pocket.  When homeless ask if you got any change, jingle them a bit as you pretend to look for change, then say no.

Or go to a Canadian strip club.  Those girls go crazy when they see real money.

I love rolling pennies. I pull out all of the wheat pennies. Makes it worth all the effort.

funny shit.. on the man show awhile ago they had a coin.. for homeless people.. that said "get a job" on one side.. and with a middle finger saying "fuck you" on the other..

i couldnt walk 20 feet in baltimore without being hassled for change.

So I finally decided to cash in all the pennies that have been sitting in my cooler for several months. I needed something to put beer in and I didn't want to buy a new cooler. I brought it up to my bank which has a coin counter that members get to use for free () and got the money for them! $126.66 to be exact!

It turned out that I had:
~15550 pennies
1 quarter
5 dimes
7 nickels

So the moral to the story is that good things come in time and persistance prevails.

Also, here is something I bought with a portion of my money:

Life is good. :drooling:

$126.4/13 years = $9.72/year = $.02662/day

You'd be rich if you invest it at 6% per year for 1000 years.
