How should I attempt this?
    #5600915 - 05/07/06 12:41 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

OK, first off, I don't know if I should even do this, but I'll post it regardless

I have 4 cakes colonizing, they all stopped there growth about a week ago, and there all around 1/4 fully colonized. So since they won't fully colonize, I plan on turning these 4 uncolonized cakes into one casing.

So do I just cut off all the uncolonized parts with a sterile knife, or can I just use any regular unsterilized knife?

And once I do start the casing and put it in the fruiting chamber, what are my chances that I actually will have some pins show up after a few days?

Alrite, well could somebody lead me through the steps I should approach in turning these cakes into a casing?

So far I know to cut the uncolonized parts off, then dunk my colonized peices in water for 12 hours, then roll the pieces in dry verm, then do I just turn it the colonized peices in a casing?

Also, which casing method should I follow, I've read a few differnt ones on here, I don't know which one is the best, because I've never cased before

Also, should I cold shock my small colonized pieces before I turn it into a cake?

dunk the pieces in a ziplock. make sure to get ALL of the uncolonized parts off. any tiny bit is a great vector for contamination. don't roll in verm beucase they arn't cakes. poor out all the water from the ziplock and crumpled the bit up prety much as shall as you can. then stick them into a tay or pan or bowl. then look up Hyphae's pinny stragagy. its in his sig.

oh you might want to toss in 10% peroxide to that water. especially since you don't have 100% colonized cakes.

Would pouring 1/10 99% alcohol to water be just as good as pouring 10% peroxide into the water?

NONONOON

alcohol kills myc. peroxide only kills spores. mycelium produces enzimes that break the peroxide down. spores can't do this thus they die.

ios and h202 bother have their uses though.

So what I'm looking to buy now is some hydrogen peroxide? Isn't that shit 70% alcohol though?
