How do you handel "fear and loathing"

On mushrooms in particular i often find myself grappeling with the dark, organic, sometimes visceral, gross or terrifying aspects of the mushroom trip. Sometimes the trip can degrade into hours of anxiety and malevolent hallucinations. Im wondering what helps you when the psychedelic waters get rough. Coming back to tripping, i will try the buddhist approach of just sitting with your images and feelings, observing but not identifying with them, allowing them to pass.
Ive even heard somepeople say they enjoy bad trips. i cant agree with this. I have often found bad trips to be strengthening or enlightening, but never enjoyable.
thoughts?

That is can be difficult to do, but a very noble approach indeed. If you are truly able to identify with the Witness, then you shall be free from the limitations of "good" and "bad, dark, organic, visceral, gross, and terrifying".
It's very helpful to cultivate this attitude even when sober, that way when you trip you won't have to make any special effort. Also, if you don't already, dharana and dhyana (concentration and true meditation) are very wonderful practices.
Best of luck, brother.

i agree dblaney it is a good practice I myself just try to observe from the outside first see with no bias as a separate person of course it is hard to maintain this at all times its just practice i guess . in regard with doing this while on potent hallucinogens you kind of have to be a observer inside your mind and kind of just guide your thoughts to positive things kind of like sailing through a storm your subjecting your fragile state of mind to some really out there fictional story you just guide your self through it to the sunshine and blue Sky's you know are on the other side.. my advice is to not waste your experience's watching brain washing machines but to get out into the nature and experience the beauty of all thing natural its a much more enjoyable expedience you don't get as much negative thoughts... only love can prevail.

I just tough it out. I struggle with the intense and painful feelings until they resolve themselves. I always keep a positive attitude. I tell myself im going to struggle for about 20 minutes then its all uphill from there.
Seems to work nearly every time.

I always like to write things down. I find writing rather therapeutic, and really helps when the going gets tough. It also makes me feel that I have some sort of control over my thoughts. Plus, it allows you to get a more spiritual experience, also it makes a good log. So I recommend writing. Peace

Your damn right bucket. Thats the way it works for me. I struggle for a while with the trip but every single time it resolves itself and the trip always goes well from there.
Funny though it doesnt work the same way for everyone. Some people their trips start off good but they slowly turn negative. I think its all about your state of mind. If you sit back and let the trip take over theres a good chance it will turn bad but if your always struggling to make it positive then it WILL turn positive everytime. At least it does for me.

I suppose by bad trip he means, the visceral scary aspect of a mushroom trip that people experience. I personally like to do mushrooms and go walk trails in the dark. I find it enjoyable although scary and the hallucinations can get pretty intense in such a dark setting. I convince myself there is nothing to be afraid of because..there really isn't.
