Help, casings not fruiting. What's wrong?
    #5599022 - 05/06/06 09:25 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I've had some pan cyan casings in the works lately and nothing is happening. Once the substrate was fully colonized I gave it a few more days and cased with Jiffy Mix. Then, I incubated the casings for 3-4 days in the dark with little to no air exchange, letting the mycelium grow into the low spots. On the last day after incubation I patched the casing and cold shocked in the fridge for 24 hours. After the cold shock I placed the cased containers in the unitub fruiting chamber @ 73 deg F with a flourescent grow lamp on a 12-12 cycle. The fuzzy mycelium keeps growing through the casing medium (Jiffy Mix) and I keep patching it. one and a half weeks later the mycelium keeps growing and I keep patching. I have two thermometers inside the unitub (one electronic and one bulb) and they both consistently read 70-80 deg F. What am I doing wrong? Why does the mycelium continue to eat through the casing even after cold shock, air exchange, lower temps and high humidity. Any ideas...? I'm about to run out of patching room!

stop patching! let it do its thing. In a monotub there should be no patching at all. Leave it alone and let go.

Forget about it and move on to your next project, come back in about a week or two, you'll probably be very suprised
