Been listening to the Bonnaroo CDs and watching the DVDs getting ready for it this year. Nothing like some Burning Spear or Primus or any slew of bands off of these CDs to put you in a trance.
Check out this site and just input an artist you are a fan of... pretty cool.

FLAMING LIPS are awesome
a couple of weeks ago, took 4 hits of acid and listened to nothing but their cds on my brand new dj headphones. fucking fantastic!
they're all unique and good in their own way, but transmissions from the satellite heart, clouds taste metallic, yoshimi battles the pink robots, soft bulletin, and oh my gawd!!!...the flaming lips are among my favorite.

Herbie hancock, "sun ra" on clavi, grant green, miles, phish, "ramsy lewis's" sungodess, medeski martin and wood.
I do love radiohead, shpongle, the dead. They are very trippy also, but less jazzy. I am big into jazz.
Hebie hancock's "headhunters", and most of all "man-child" are must haves.

Yes "Relayer." "Sound Chaser" and "Gates of Delirium" are transcendant. Trust me. Any Yes is better than just about anything by anybody else. ELP and old Genesis (with Gabriel) are notable exceptions.

MUST READ..........
Its so good I think I will mention it again.
Psychedelic music doesnt get any better than herbie hancock's "man child" album. It is 100% PERFECT for a trip. Its chilled and about as inovative and trippy as it gets.
When listening to that album, you are on a cloud. It is an absolute must for people who like psychedelics and psychedelic music. Its at the top of the top notch.
They have a song called "bubbles". The whole album is very chilled and psychedelic. This song as an example sounds like scuba diving in a colorful reef with bubbles making their way to the surface. The whole song is meant to sound circulare, each small piece as well as the whole from beginning to end(like one giant bubble made of thousands of little bubbles). That album will blow your mind.
I also would recommend "Head hunters" and "secrets"(herbie hancock).
On a seperate note, anything by john scofield or medeski martin and wood is GREAT for tripping, though some of their albums are a bit dark.
Also, youre really missing out if you have not heard miles davis's "bitches brew". Its so amazingly alien that it could almost freak you out while tripping. Their sound resembles the peak on a massive dose of LSD. SO that one might not be for everyone. All the people I have recommended it to on this site were so blown away that they thanked me up and down. Most of them couldnt wait to hear it on psychedelics.

It does that to me too.
"Man child" is far from that though. It is PERFECT.
I agree, bitches brew must be a bit much for many people when taking psychedelics. It would be very intense none the less.

I missed the boat, but here are some psychedelic bands for next time.
Shalabi Effect (try locating their self titled album - a sprawling 2 CD album that clocks over 100 mins) Acid Mothers Temple - the true meaning of psychedelic, can be both pleasant and extremely harsh Organum - not really psychedelic, but slightly meditative music. Drone/ambient.
