Magic Mushrooms -> Penicillin

I've never been on magic mushrooms, but I've heard rumours that if you are allergic to penicillin then you would be allergic shrooms. Is this true? I'd like to know for sure before I try them, because I have a deadly allergy penicillin.
Thanks -Geoff

I'm allergic to penicillin and I have no problem with shrooms. I suppose it is possible a grow could be contaminated with penicillin spores, but it is highly unlikely. As long as penicillin mold isnt growing on the shrooms, no worries

I am allergic to penicillin and I have no problem with shrooms, as well. Thats two people so far. Why not do a test? Maybe rub a shroom on your skin and see if you react to it in a bad way, or scratch your arm/hand and rub some shroom into the scratch. If anything happens then don't take the shrooms. It seems very unlikely that anything will happen, and I actually have no idea whether such tests would even prove to be sufficient. Chances are, you are not allergic to shrooms.

Yeah thanks
I think if a serious allergy were present, rubbing it on my arm would cause some sort of reaction, thanks for the advice.

No, there is not a similarity.
You'll be absolutely fine.

I don't see any chemical reason why making you allergic to penicillin would make you allergic to psilocybin mushrooms. I've never even heard of anyone having a serious allergic reaction to shrooms. (That doesn't mean it couldn't happen, but it would be extremely rare I imagine.)
I've never heard this myth but it may have gotten started because penicillin is derived from a "lower" fungi and mushrooms are obviously fungi.

In theory it would be possible though to have mushrooms contaminated with penicillum mold, and in this case they theoretically could contain very small amounts of penicillin.

That's true, but it sounds EXTREMELY unlikely. I'm assuming you know more about mold than me, but I've never heard of someone dying from eating shrooms containing penicillin, and I actually do look at drug related statistics fairly often.
Besides, while fatal allergies to penicillin are somewhat common, it's my understanding they are extremely overdiagnosed. Some people get itching and blotchy skin which they assume is an allergic reaction ,but is a somewhat common side effect of most antibiotics (same thing happens with opiates which just release histamine).
