Ut oh - first time grow a failure?

So my "friend of a friend" is doing his first grow. Bought a kit from Mycoshack (just to get his feet wet, I know it's more expensive). He had two WBS bags, bought the spores off of sporeworks.com and innoc'd his bags about 3 weeks ago. Everything looked like it was going great, the mycelium was growing on about 1/3 of the bag at about the 2 week point, only checked on them twice until today. Well today staring back in his face were little patches of green fuzz... not good. Mycelium growth appears to have stopped as well, which seems odd.
So a few questions! Is that the end of the road? Is there anything that can be done to save the poor bags? The mold does not seem to be touching any of the mycelium. Is mold always caused by an unsteril work area? There were zero signs of mold the first couple weeks, does that mean that it got contam'd during one of the "check ins"?
Oh the set up is basically a tub in a tub, the bigger tub filled with water and the little one inside that with the bags. A fish tank heater is heating the water, set to 87 deg's er so... Tho the actual temp inside the tub is unknown!
Thanks so much for the help... This SUCKS! All that for nothing

If the mold isn't near the inoculation points, I'd say the reason was that the bag was not sterilized properly and not your work area. Your work area shouldn't have anything to do with it because the substrate is in a contained environment. Mycoshack has been getting alot of bad rep lately and their banner advertisement has been removed from here. Hope you still have some spores left. If not, PM me and I may be able to help you out

Edit - Deleted the first part of this post which was just me being pissy haha. --- Does it seem like if it was the bags tho, the mold would have shown up sooner?

laaame, sad to here of a known myco company not being up to par
General rule of thumb is, if your contamed your screwed. Especially in earlier phases. In the laaaater ended phases of colonization, if there is a EVER SO TINY contam, you MAY be able to cut it out without probs, but most cases of contam should and do end up in the garbage. Better luck next time.

I tend to agree with Foo on this...
If you didn't almost imediately see mean green forming around the inoculation points...it wasn't the spore syringe.
You didn't open the bag did you?
Does the bag have a filter patch?
Mycoshack did have a problem with some contaminated jars and bags...I believe.

Start over...and this time make your own substrate.
I hope that you kept the syringe that you got from Sporeworks...you can re-use that. pm me if you want to learn how to sterilize it easy.
If you need a spore print...I have a Redboy that you can have.

Well I rubbed the needle with rubbing alch... And flamed it with a lighter, and I was wearing gloves that were rubbed down. I don't THINK the contam happend at that stage.
Yes teh bags had a patch on them - was never quite sure what that was for. Once you puncture the rubber circles, do you put tape overthem or anything? That always threw me off too, seems like I go through all that trouble to keep it steril and now there's a small hole in the bag heh

No, the little black disc is a self healing injector site, no tape needed.

Sorry to hear that dude.
In my opinion, you're screwed 100%.
Now you must find out if it is your fault or the company's.
If it's the company's fault, make them fix it asap, if it's yours, sorry again.
There should never be a hole in the bag besides the filter patch.
If the mold is around the injection site, probably your bad, if its far from any mycelium, make them fix it with a new one.
I wish you well in the future, don't give up!

Yeah it's no where near the injection site, just random spots around the bag... I guess I'll email the owner and try my luck... But if some of their bags are dirty, I just assume not waste my time getting a replacement.

hey if you used al lyour syringe but havn't sterilized it yet its still good. i know i always have a dark ring around the plunger where spore never made it out. you can suck up sterilized cooled LC solution with that and make a LC right in the syringe or suck up sterilized and cooled water and shake to get some of theose spores out and make an LC.
