Hi mushroom enthusiasts! I have no experience when it comes to identifying fungi, could you please tell me whether these contain hallucinogens?
Found them in a dark wet ferny forest (wellngtn area, new zealand).. the orange ones on the forest floor in the leafy mulch near bases of trees, and the blueish bulbous ones growing on rotting bark, pretty much same conditions.
some of the orange ones are rotten i think, and smelled so when i first picked them, the blue ones pretty much smell like white button mushrooms.
am in the process of making a spore print, also havent noticed any bruising as of yet on the orange ones

The top ones are not active.
Those bottom ones look like the blue pouch fungus, Weraroa virescens.

hmm after reading a few more posts i'm guessing my pouch fungi are novaezealandiae, cuz the virescens seem less round and smooth and more malformed in all the pics i've looked at, also the cross section of the virescens don't look at all like the ones i have, I'm no mycologist tho hehe

Bluemeanie might be able to help you out. I just googled "blue pouch fungus" to give you some help. We don't have pouch fungi in Ohio, so I'm just going from what I have seen posted in this forum.
From what I have seen, there is not a consensus about the activity/edibility of blue pouch fungi. caution is advised.

It sounds as though they are - someone posted and said that their mates definately eat them, and he even described the effects. It's likely that they are active, however it is still just one piece of info, and obviously with mushrooms its dangerous unless you are sure.
Feed them to mice perhaps? Would be my only suggestion to test for toxicity. We really need to sort this dilly of a pickle out!

I have a feeling that feeding to mice might be flawed because I'd imagine their livers/kidneys are not close enough to ours for this test to work.

I'm pretty sure we are surprisingly geneticially similar to mice, after both our genomes were compared they are much closer than anyone suspected.

Whether its a good way to test for toxcicity - Quote:
Mice and humans both have about 30,000 genes - and share 99% of them - but the mouse genome is shorter than that of humans
I dont know much about that kinda thing. They use them for medical testing - its probably as good as your gonna get unless you find a monkey.
It's like $2 for a mouse, and there's a very high chance he'll be fine and that after that you'll be fine. Perhaps the mouse will find that enlightnment he's been searching for. haha

Nothing like tripping with a neighbours beloved pet. I can imagine those whiskars singles cat food ads would be a bit different.

Ok thats cool man, good luck. Be weary, make sure you have someone who knows what to do if things go wrong.
You should be fine though. Have a good time.
If you can post a full trip reports in the psychadelic forum and have a link to it from here. I'm looking forward to it!

Yeah he was taking the pouch fungus's. Good that we can confirm their edibility/activity.
Can you compare it to normal shrooms? Is the body load heavy like that other guy reported?
