I made a recipe of a high millet containing finch seed and verm mix ( about a 6 to 1 ratio ) and before preparing I soaked the seed for about 20 minutes and drain fairly well the added the verm in to overwet seed. I inoculated them about 10 days ago and have gotten some growth but the substrate seems awfully dry....I am afraid that if I do not get some water to it...the growth will stop. I also am afraid to let it breath due to the lose of moisture that will accompany that!!!! I did put a layer of verm on the top and just flipped them today but I am unsure of how much good this will do and when to just abort and start over.....any input would be appreciated!

birdseed needs to be soaked for like 12-24 hours 20 minutes is way to short.

or simmered. or steaped
aos don't need wet verm in your jars just wastes space. put a spon of DRY verm in the bottom to make sure jars arn't too wet (you can do a shitty drain job and be ok)
grain looks dry beucase the outside esentually is. but the inside is gooey and wet if you soaked, simmered or steaped.

I think the problem is your ratio of verm. The way Ive always done it is to soak the millet, drain the excess and then add enough verm to make it about 30%/40% verm. This should create a fairly wet looking mix but without any pooling at the bottom of the mixing bowl.
