use of bubble wands under perlite for humidity?
    #5594806 - 05/05/06 04:28 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I am toying with the idea of doing the poor mans pod tek for my terranium to keep up the humidity. I was just wondering if the wand would work under perlite and not georocks. And if so would the bubble wands put out a mist that sprayed the my brf cakes. I think that directly spraying the cakes is bad, isn't it? Lastly wouldn't there then have to be standing water in the terranium, and isnt that also a bad thing?
thanks in advance

ive done a couple experiments with the pmp, the martha idea is better and in the long run cheaper.
as for the rest of your questions. yes bubble wands under the perlite works best.
the blue bubble stones seem to fall apart and crumble after bleach and pressure cooking. the bubble wands stand up to bleach and if you remove the plastic parts can handle the pressure cooker.
standing water is not the best idea but it is needed to make this work.
i personally use 1.5 inches of h20/h2o2 inside of 2 inches of perlite. i go strong on the h2o2 in hopes of avoiding contams in the standing water.
if you really want to go ape shit try using a tray of perlite with a bubble wand and h2o/h2o2 under your casing or cake inside of a martha style setup with humidifiers.
ive found that with the right balance of fresh air exchange and h2o2 there is never enough h2o in the air. the trick is to get as much water in the air as possible without forming any drops.
cleanliness and a constant temp help to avoid drops.
a tip on the pmp... keep the inside ceiling super clean. it will keep the drops from forming as much.
im rambling, sorry.
