Just that it has a name should mean that it's probably decent bud. But you can never be sure of the strain unless you get it from the guy who grows it and even then who knows if he's sure of the strain.
In any case go for it. Generally speaking, all good bud is pretty similar.
Where i'm from dank buds are like $50 for an 1/8 so I'd say paying anything more than that is probably too much (even 50 is a lot)
edit: you could always jsut smoke a bowl w/ your friend and see if you like it...

"trainwreck " is a term growers use to describe accidents when breeding ...it just means that they dont know which male knocked up which females..but they know all genes are good..so the call it a "Trainwreck"..thats why there are so many diff strains with the same type namename

Train Wreck is basically an "accident" strain more or less, with sometimes ridiculous results.
Some of the TW stuff that comes out of Cali I've found to be absolutely mindblowing.

trainwreck is i think white widow and something else mixed, or else skunk if im not mistaken w/ some kind of indica. i could be wrong. but they call it trainwreck because it hits you like a fuckin train.

Trainwreck (Acarta Trainwreck)
This particular strain is a clone, that has been passed around northern cali for the past 20 years. There are some seeds of this varient that have strong genetics to the original, but most of the original strains are clones...
This strain didn't really become popular until it's debut at the 3rd Floor in Oakland. Supposedly this was a super clone that was a mix of Thai x Afghani x Mexican Sativa...
The phenotype is mostly a Sativa with a slight bit of Indica. The odor of this strain is very strong sometimes signified as rotting honey dew melons...
I have tried this strain and it is one of my top 10 potent strains. This will knock you on your ass. Very large cola's and resinous buds I remember it being considered one of the world's top most potent strains back a couple years ago..
Here's some budshots for the brain

I'm not quite sure of the origin/composition of trainwreck, but as an Arcata resdent I can tell you that there is LOTS of readily available trainwreck. I've tried tons of outdoor organic, greenhouse, indoor soil and hydro trainwreck and each had the same distinct "trainwreck" odor ime. Great strain. Good consistent taste/smell and, usually very heady stimulated high imo. Unless the grower took crappy care of the plants, trainwreck is always a desirable strian.

trainwreck came around here a few months ago and it was some of the nicest buds ive seen. The bud was completely covered in crystals and smelled really strong. the smoke was smooth and it gave me an incredible narcotic high.

Definitely some of the best pot out there. When your getting nuggs, trainwreck rarely, if ever, disappoints. The smell is so nice, lemony/melony/slightly fermented, very very distinct. One of my favorite smokes for sure. This shit put me to sleep after getting back from a festival.

Trainwreck is by far the best bud I've ever smoked. Nothing so far has compared, and the only thing my dealer gets is top notch headies. It's the only bud that actually gave me the spins and made me puke. Really good shit
