Spider Mites............die, die, die!
    #5594178 - 05/05/06 01:24 PM (17 years, 8 months ago)

Alright....what is the most effective way to kill off these little fuckers?

In the course of a night they have appeared. They are everywhere already!

Now the only plants I have going are cacti. A handful of two month old lophs and a year old pedro with a relatively fresh graft on top.

The graft is the one im concerned about.

Are cacti really susceptible to mites? Will the mites fuck up the graft by trying to get to the unweathered skin of young loph or around the graft area??

I got some tangle foot on order to put up barriers around my other plants.....but all i have right now is the tangle traps(on the yellow paper), but this is not really meant for mites......so no help there

Im thinking of getting some neem oil..... Would that be safe on cacti?

Any help or input much appreciated

Try some garlic and water blended in a blender. I don't know if thats ok for cacti, but it'll get rid of the mites over time.

Safer's soap will kill them but whatever you use you have to use it over and over. More will hatch out for a period of up to a couple few weeks. They come in from the outside on your clothing and by other means as well. I just use safer's soap mixed according to label. It kills whiteflies and a lot of other things too. I'm dealing with an outdoor infestation of aphids and I'm slowly but surely winning the battle.

forget it, these are mites your talking about.

either bring the heavy chemicals or adopt whatever alternative you
choose into your dayly routine for the rest of your life.

these things are fucking evil man...

the only 'natural' thing that might be halfway effective is tobacco
water + spiritus.

ultimatly its a choice between getting rid of them good with strong chemicals u use 2 or 3 times, or less toxic chemicals wich u have to keep spraying them with continuesly.

Exactly what stonehenge said, i've been using the safer soaps now for about a year, and after every time everything but the plants dead. They do keep hatching, but i'd say 3 or 4 good full spray downs over the course of a month or so and you'll be mite free.
