It looks almost fully colonized, so I wouldn't shake at this point. The time to shake is when the jars are at the stage of your first pictures at the start of the thread. That will spread the colonized kernels around so they can inoculate the rest. Those will be ready to spawn to manure in a week or less.

tbh, at the rate they are going now, considering how they looked like 2 days ago when I started this thread, I think these jars will be ready in like 3 more days, tops.

Nonetheless, though, that leaves me with a problem. I wanted to do a mono tub by using the rye as spawn for straw...but I'm pretty sure these 3 pint jars wont be enough for that, which is why I made 4 more pints jars. THose 4 new ones won't be ready for another while though.

So from that 2 new questions arise. First of all, would using 3 pints as spawn as opposed to 5 or 6 make the colonization of the straw take literally twice as long?
And secondly, is it possible to store fully colonized jars in the fridge and have them stay good, much like when u put clones/cuttings in the fridge and can let them root later on??

Yes and Yes. You could use less straw to keep the spawn to substrate ratio high. I would wait until the other jars colonize and make a nice size bulk though.

Ive kept spawn in the fridge for months before.

And the spawn won't be stunted or loose its vigor in any way after a prolonged fridge session? (Well, I guess it'll only be a week to week and a half tops, but still....)

It will be fine. The fridge will just lower its metabolism so it doesn't continue to break down the grain and such as that. When it warms back up it will rejuvenate.

You could just leave it at room temp if it is only going to be 10 days or so.

Shaking now will make shaking later much easier because it isn't so tightly knit at least this has always been my experience, shaking is not just for colonization.

I dunno doesnt that mycelium seem kinda clear? My mycelium has always been thick and you cant see no grains.

That is because the mycelium is growing thin so as to cover as much grain as fast as possible. It will thicken up after all the grain is covered.

If the growth is thick the entire time theres a problem with moisture, gas exchange, or temperature. Thick growth= slow growth

Also slightly dryer substrate produces wispier myc. Remember myc thrives in moisture!

Ok so here I am again with yet another picture update. Sorry to keep coming back all the time, but since this is the first time I ever see any activity in a jar I'm pretty exited and maybe overly attentive. Problem is now the 3 jars are pretty much 100% colonized....but whats unsettling is these very pale yelow areas I'm seeing here and there. Ive circled them in the pics to make it more obvious what it is that I'm talking about, although you might have to actually click on the pics to see the circles

ALthough I've heard of ppl talking about "myc piss" before I imagined that came in the form of yellow moisture buildup on the bottom of the jar. If someone could please gimme some insight on this it would be much appreciated. I'm gonna bang my head in the wall if this turns out to be contamed....which I was under the impression didn't happen so easily once the jars reach this stage.

thx in advance

Yea, myc piss. Use them whenever you you time/are ready. The only times I get myc piss is when the myc is ready to either colonize or fruit and is left in the incubator.
