My FOAF (friend of a friend) started his own setup of 12 jars the orignal PF style. He had a good procedure and told me that he got some decent results. But he was so confident in his setup that he moved on to those advance typpes that use other grains and seeds. Just as a precaution, when you move on to a move complicated procedure. Dont do a drastic change where you change from all 12 jars of brown rice flour to whatever from bird seed rye grain or quinoa. I recommend you guys attempting like 1 or two jars with it. The reason I give this warning, my friend's friend had changed all 12 jars and fucked up all 12!. He didn't know what was wrong but when he found out, he had 24 more jars that also fucked up. He still hasn't got the idea of the more complicated teks. But hopefully more sucess to him in the future. He wasted like 2 months and 4 cycles of the process. Good luck guys, and know the teks before you get into them.

Becoming a master cultivator involves much trial and error. Most of the more experienced cultivators have probably grown quite a bit of green/red/insert your contam color here trying to perfect different methods and teks.

i feel you dasani. i too did the same thing. did 1st batch pk tek to the letter and got decent results then was so confident to immediately move to a newly built terranium (4 shelfs with ultrasonic) switched from brf to birdseed, used mycelium water instead of spore syringe, used filters and lid bands only, used a incubater, spawned dung, and cased. first two batches were horrible. i got about 1/2 oz sack dried shrooms total from the first flush after starting with about 12 casings. (yeah i know!)
BUT....
i would not trade the INVALUABLE hands on experience and knowledge i learned by fucking up. so i say go for it. cause even though i went about two months having to ration so to speak my shrooms i am now reaping the wonderous rewards only available from more/better nutritive content teks, ie birdseed, dung, straw teks,etc. when you can lay your head down every night and know you have a beautiful jungle growing in your closet and the infinite supply of shrooms you couldn't consume them all if you wanted to just a seemless endless supply....
it just helps my sleep with a huge fuckin grin on my face!

Its very difficult especially when you take in the time it takes from beginning to end. When a jar or casing fails 4 weeks in to the growth cycle, all that work feels like it was for nothing, BUT you learn from those mistakes. My friend still remembers the days of using whole brown rice and quart jars and a styrofoam cooler. Now its compost and coolmist humidifiers.LOL  bluhoney

Even if I manage to contaminate a whole batch of jars (not happened yet, but someday probably), I just clean up and start again.
Its never a failure, its a learning experiance.
