a few comments about the search feature

I see this comment "UTFSE" once in a while.

#1 - Searches by default are set to exclude any post older than 1 month

This bugs me.

All searches at the shroomery only look at the last month of posts. Anything older than one month is not included, by default.

You can change this, of course, but you have to change it every time. Speaking from experience, this has fucked up many of my searches since it is easy to overlook this.

When you compare this to other similar sites (the nook, coroboree, etc) there is NO time limit by default when you search. It searches everything, by default.

#2 - When doing a search of a commonly asked question, most of the results contain no information because people are sick of answering the same question over and over again.

If everyone performed thorough searches every time they had a question, the search function would be a lot more efficient. But since this never happens (and probably never will happen) common questions are filled with crap posts that contain little and/or bad information.

This means that it is actually kind of difficult for a complete noob to find answers because they don't know the actual answer so they don't know what to look for.


Now hopefully the shroomery wiki will help address these issues. I don't really know to be honest.

As things currently stand it is actually pretty hard to get answers to commonly asked questions. Especially if noobs are searching only the last month of posts, which I suspect most of them are.
